The "Video cable connected?" message is asking you to check to see if the cable is connected to the computer. If it is connected correctly, there could any number of problems with the computer.

That message you see is a generic message that most newer monitors have to let the user know that it is not recieveing a video signal from the computer.

The fact that the computer will not turn off unless you force it to makes me think that there is a short somewhere in the computer. This could be caused by a loose screw somewhere, or just from a bad or improperly seated component.

I would not attempt the following unless you are able to identify the different components inside your computer.

Your best bet would be to make sure the computer is unplugged. Then take the side panel off the computer, and make sure all the components are seated properly. The repeated heating and cooling of components causes something called "Chip Creep" which can make them come out of their connectors partially. This doesn't happen that often these days but I say always start with the basics.

If that doesn't solve your problem, you are then going to want to remove all the periphials out of the machine (I.E. Modem, Network card, Sound Card). Bring it down to just the processor, memory and video card. If the machine works, then add the components one by one until you find the one that is causing the short. Most likely it will be the dial up modem if you have one.

If you get it down to just the board, power supply, processor, memory and video card and it still does not work... One of those components have gone bad. Your next step would be to test each one individually to find out the offending component.

Good luck!

first check cable connections, you are getting no signal out to monitor, or insufficient signal. if connections are solid, you're looking at Video card, or maybe motherboard. Are you under warranty?
