you need to reinstall or update the device drivers for the equipment your computer is not seeing.

how old is your computer? does it support usb 1.1 and 2.0? check the bios settings to see if both are enabled or if you only support 1.1.

Have you used the usb connections for a few different components? This will stop them working properly, you might have uninstall whatever was plugged into them, I advise getting a usb hub.

If you are running Vista and you used to have xp, there is your answer.
