Hardware - December 2006

Im using a computer with 32mb of ram, and a 55 inch floppy and a 3.5 inch floppy drive, and a 386 processor, and a 244mb hard disk, and a 1k modem. I upgraded it to win 3.11 and its alot better. Its a littel loud, but I sat it on the bail of hay in my living room, and that made it alot less loud, but it still smels like burning dust. Its got a new coat of paint a few years ago.

Alright, so every time I right click on a music file of any kind, it forces the explorer.exe, also known as the desktop, to crash and restart automatically, or perform an illegal error. I have Windows 2000 Professional, and I have upgraded windows media player 9 to its fullest. Any suggestions?

Right now I have a socket 754 motherboard (with a sempron 2800) Along with that I have DDR SD 3200 ram (2 sticks of 512). In addition I have a 6800 gs. I don't know, but I am sure that the processor is holding the video card back in certain situations. In first person shooter games, where everything is in a small space, I get smooth frame rates, but in a game like oblivion, my CPU suffers! It is practically on 100% load the whole time. I have done some tweaks, but it doesn't stop the constant studders I get, especially in battle.

Anyway, I was thinking about upgrading to the AM2 socket. This motherboard looks really good to me:

The motherboard and the CPU seem like the cheapest. I was looking and DDR 2 800 memory is expensive. I got my 1024 mb of ram for like $60. I was wondering if that old memory would work in this new motherboard. If it does, would it even be worth it? Would it slow down the rest of the system?

Ok, so for Christmas, my parents bought me a computer off of ebay. It was new, and still in its original packaging. When I turn it on, I get the error:

Reboot and Select proper Boot device
or Insert Boot media in selected Boot device and press a key.

I had a friend come over and check the BIOS (I think its called that), and he said everything is normal. He also looked inside of it and checked to see if anything may have been knocked out of place suring shipping. He said that everything looked to be in order. I've googled it about all day, and the responses I keep seeing require me to have the XP cd. Which wasnt shipped with the computer. I've also seen stuff saying that I need to get a boot floppy (or something like that), but I dont have a floppy drive.

Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

I've bought a bluetooth dongle and downloaded the software, if I go to device manager it detects it and says it works properly,but i don't know how to make it work with my moto krazr. I tried to look in my computer but it doesn't come up. Also when I plug it in it makes the noise to say it detects the usb bluetooth adaptor, I also searched on my phone to see if it can detect it but it doesn't. HOW DO YOU WORK THE BLUETOOTH ADAPTOR

I have a 3 year old Compaq desktop. Everything was working fine. Powered down one night. Next morning, wont start. Just a green blinking light on the back of the power supply. I disconneted all the periphreals and no changes. So i took off the side and started trying different plugs. The light stops blinking when I unplug P1 from the main board. What does this mean? What is broke and what do I replace?

I found out that i'm getting an external hardrive for my laptop for christmas(so excited) but i have no idea how to put my program files on it any help would be greatly appreciated.
