My mom just got a notebook, and she wants to set up security so that we're the only ones who can use our wireless internet signal (we don't want our neighbors or somebody to be able to use it). Neither of us has any idea of how to do that. Help please?

You need to buy a wireless router, I like Linksys routers. You can probably get a pretty decent one for about $30-40 from any computer store. Then just google how to configure the router for wireless security. WEP security is the older security and while it can be cracked, it is still pretty decent. WPA security is a little more difficult to crack so that may be your best route. If you don't want to set it up yourself there is probably staff at the computer store who will set it up for you, but it really doesn't take more than about 5-10 minutes.

You will need a wireless router. Check the documentation that came with the router. It will have steps to set up a WEP or WPA password. Anyone wanting to get on your network will have to know the password to be able to get connected.
