Hardware - December 2006

Obviously I use it often enough, but never for anything heavy-duty, just a few pages of homework a day or so, maybe even less! And yet, I need to replace or refill the ink cartridge about every couple weeks... is this normal?

I'm considering taking the leap and buying a MacBook Pro (I'm currently a Windows guy). My work will require me to have access to a Win system since I cannot run Microsoft Project and Visio on a Mac....what are the benefits of taking the leap to Mac? Will my Win running on my Mac have any issues?

Hello,
I have a computer which I was trying to format - apparently during the format C drive gave up the ghost so now I cant even use a boot disk .. My question is this: - I originally had 2 hard drives anyway - is it possible to just go into the setup menu and change the slave to the master? Any info is good and thankyou in advance..

i'm looking to buy a burner for my amd athlon pc. what kind of unit should i look at which will read and write and re-write to the same disc if the disc is not full. i want one that i can use to put some info on, then come back later to add other info on. which would be best speed to run if i have a 1.1gig systm?would like also to burn music with same drive

every time i download a "free" registry cleaner,it finds about 600 problems with my laptop and then it will clean about half of them. then i have to pay to get the rest of the problems fixed. is there a complete registry cleaner and repair available that is free?

I've got a Packard Bell Easynote laptop, which works fine when connected on AC power. However as soon as the power lead is unplugged the laptop cuts off, despite the fact that it says the battery level is 100% before unplugging.
Anyone have any suggestions, as it just makes my laptop unportable.

I also cannot decide if I should get a Notebook Optical Mouse or a Desktop Laser or Optical Mouse (I don't need anything special), whether I should get a Tabletop tripod or a Gorillapod SLR for my Rebel XT, I cannot decide if I should get a Creative X-Fi Fatality, a Sound Blaster, or keep my Realtek AC'97, and last but not least, I cannot decide if I should get a new media player, or a Datel, Max Media Player for my Nintendo DS.

Oh, and by the way, I cannot spend a lot of money on the products, except for the LCD.

i have set up my second hdd as a slave but when i go into my computer highlight it and takes me to the drive. All my info is there and not in folders i put things in folders i.e music in folder called music. then i will click on that folder to open it that works then i try and play a song from within that folder and it dont work any ideas and thx.

Ok, yesterday my laptop really started acting up, I would turn it on and it would just go really slow, when I clicked on the internet explorer, it took like 5 minutes before it would display my home page and after that it would work, but it kept on locking up and I was also listening to music and the music kept on freezing and skipping. Then it tarted saying when I turned it on that there is a problem with disk drive 2, back up all your data immediatley and disk failure is imminent???????? It's working better now, I switched wireless networks, it's not going slow anymore but if it has to display something such as a music video, it won't show it, I can still play music though and it won't let me redownload the media player or anything and btw it is still showing that disk failure when I turn it on. Any suggestions, I have only had it for 3 months now but I don't really have the money to get it fixed. It's a Compaq presario v5000 by the way. Thanks to all responses.

the other pcs are connceted to the internet... the problem is that the laptop can verify the connection but it can't recieve the internet information.... u know when u open ur connection properties u can see the (sent and recieved bytes) ... . there's nth recieved therefore it doesn't connect to the internet... though the connection say : connected at 100mb speed ??

I have Windows XP, Media Center Edition

single 64-bit AMD proc
1.5GB RAM

When I shut down, it often hangs as if there are 1 or more processes that won't shut down or are maybe conflicting w/ one another, preventing my machine for properly shutting down.

I don't really know if this is really what's happening but I was wondering if there is some sort of monitoring tool that I could use to see if this is the problem. Or are there any other suggestions to see what's going on?

i have a built in sd card slot on my computer (gateway laptop-xp sys)..i bought a micro sd and adapter to use with my lg8300.. after i put the card in my phone, it puases saying "initializing for like 5 sec every time i navigate through the menu "..also it says theres no avaliable memery on the card..its supose to be a 1 gb card....when i put the card adapter in my computer nothing happens..no options under removable devices, nor under device manager..the card also get extremly hot to the touch after i take it out...anybody no whats going on?!? thanx

I have installed 2scsi drives in my system but the first drive is detected after giving F6 and the particular driver and it came to an installation sequence but the second drive i was unable to made it detected to the system I have place a jumper on the backof the second scsi drive on the pin 1 J6 but it did not prompt to detect as before, My concerend issuse is regarding both the drives available for me during installation session. might be there is a cable fault or it could be a jumper setting problem .
