Between the two, Dell...

Dell for sure. Theyve been the top rated company for customer service according to Consumer Reports for 5 years running.

My personal experience has been this: Ive had 3 dells in the past. Not one ever had any problems. Im hard on computers when its comes to graphic processing as Im a 3D designer. I do alot of rendering. Also I do alot of formatting and noticed that all of the resource disk included with a Dell does not contain any of extra BS that normally comes on a PC. Dell makes customer service easy with the online tool. Your dell would come with an ID that you type into the dell website which identifies all the stock hardware that came on your PC. It will diagnose any problem live.

Out of all PC brands I choose dell anyday. Over gateway, MAC, Alienware, Voodoo, whatever.............

Ive had one Compaq in the past. There are several reasons for this. Out of the box I had to uninstall several pop up crappy start up programs. I also kept experiencing the famous blue screen of death. From the box this shouldnt be happening at all. The PC did not come with restore disk or OS disk. Customer service was a pain to deal with.

I've had so many problems with my expensive dell but this old compaq laptop I usually have just lying around is still kickin.

If anything, if you're going to dish out money on a computer go for a Mac.

None. I recommend another brands or proper custom designed ones.

I have a COMPAQ laptop and i am not happy with it. Never had a DELL but my mate is a reseller for them and he earns about $150-200 per machiene he sells. thats far too much profit. If you think about it DELL needs money and the reseller gets the $150-200 so basically its the PC with an extra $200+ on top of it.

COMPAQ desktops are a pain too upgrade, well the were. Havent had one for about 3 years, they may have changed.

Like i have said before, i recommend just getting a PC custom built from a store. Competative market and if you ask around, get them to beat quotes you can end up with a bloody good price and a sick system.

Compaq was bought out by hp about 3 1/2 yrs ago, and my son who is a computer tech said that hp puts cheap parts in their systems, and he recommends not to by hp aka compaq.......Dell is an okay deal, but they have lousy customer support, which I have heard from several people, so the choice is yours.

Compaq is now the "Value" HP line.

Dell is a better company with a cheaper product usually.

Definitely Compaq. I have a Presario V6000 Notebook that cost me $800 at Circuit City. It's a great pc, and quite fast. Plus, Compaq is owned by HP now, so it's quite reliable.

Compaq is made by HP, so it doesn't matter. Get the best deal.
