I am about to buy a Macbook and want to use it in wi-fi hotspots, of which I don't know much about, but recently found out that if you connect to a wi-fi hotspot (panera bread, startbucks, etc), then others connected could potentially be able to see your computer and what you are doing on your computer! Is this true? Are the wi-fi hotspots so unsecure that others using it could easily hack into your computer? If this is true, Why then do people use these hotspots at all?! How can I use the internet at a wi-fi hotspot with complete security? Is it more secure just to use my cable internet that I plug in from home?

Our cable goes out way too much to get their phone service. I think I could save a lot if I could drop cable. How noticeable is the difference between the two internet options?

I am setting up i wireless network in the back of my car. I can access the router with my laptop. I want to setup a wireless receiver also in the car so i can use my router kind of as a repeater. The only problem is that if i connect that to my router then i cant choose which network for the receiver to connect to. I would have to go to my car, disconnect the receiver, connect it to my laptop, configure it, and reconnect it to the router, then reconnect to my network. I would have to do this for every network i connect to. Would it be possible for me to be able to connect to my cars network and, through the router connect to a network with that wireless adapter, without having to get up and reconnect it manually.

My husband and a I are interested in opening an ebay business. Before we can do so, we need to update our equipment. We are buying a new laptop-however, when it comes to upgrading to a faster internet connection, I have no clue what is what or what I need. Also, I am looking for some kind of package in which maybe I can get satellite or cable TV along with it-but again- HD, cable, satellite, DVR---You might as well be speaking japanese to me. I just want something super affordable that will get the job done and preferrably in an affordable package and something easy to install. Anyone out there speak Japanese? I would appreciate a useful translation!! :) Thanks
Heather

I'm looking to setup a wireless network in a 4,200 square foot home. I do not want a weak signal in any of the rooms, and I do not want it to be slow. I have a 6meg dsl connection that will be in the house. There is about 6 bedrooms that are my main concern, as well as an upstairs loft. Everything else is downstairs. I'd like the wireless to work virually anywhere in the house and on the patio. Can someone tell me what I need to buy/look at? Thank you

Specifics: Have Comcast HS Internet
Have Linksys 802.11b wireless router
Have 3 Dell Laptops hooked up all hardwired with
network cables.
As of last week everything worked fine.

Now one laptop will not access the internet but the other two will.
I've changed network cables, swapped the non-working laptop into another port on the router even tried wireless to no avail.

Now the weird part -- If I plug the Comcast cable directly into the laptop I can access the Internet . In fact thats how I'm typing this question.

Anybody have any ideas???

I have 2 Netgears DG834Gv3. I am trying to extend my internet connection to another part of the house where I have no ADSL connection, its too long to cable.
An example picture of my setup - http://www.bencarpenter.co.uk/articles/wireless/
So i have installed the latest update which includes a ' repeater mode '. I want to send the internet from the first router to the second, it is possible to still use the first router to connect to the interent wirelessly as normal? OR can it only re-route the connection directly to the second?
Cheers

I bought a Linksys Wireless-N router to go with my new Sony Laptop that supports Wireless-N. When I first connect to it, I connect at 130Mbs. However, once I setup WEP 128 security, I can only connect at 54Mbs. When I reset the router to have no security, I connect at 130Mbs. Any ideas?
