I am setting up i wireless network in the back of my car. I can access the router with my laptop. I want to setup a wireless receiver also in the car so i can use my router kind of as a repeater. The only problem is that if i connect that to my router then i cant choose which network for the receiver to connect to. I would have to go to my car, disconnect the receiver, connect it to my laptop, configure it, and reconnect it to the router, then reconnect to my network. I would have to do this for every network i connect to. Would it be possible for me to be able to connect to my cars network and, through the router connect to a network with that wireless adapter, without having to get up and reconnect it manually.

Well, you won't be able to have internet "wirelessly" through a router alone. Routers normally expect the INPUT on the WAN connector not the wireless. Wireless is used for the LAN.

You can get 3g routers. These work with the cellular enabled wireless cards from T-mobile, AT*T/cingular, Verizon etc. Those will receive the Internet from the wireless side and you can then connect your machines on the lan using the Cellular connections. That way you will be able to work as long as you are within cellular service area.

Standard WIFI was not meant for "mobile" use in this manner.
There are some Cities who provide city wide wifi and if you are in one of those you can just use your wireless card in your laptop. (But not a router -- some routers do work as "Client" adapters which basically makes them a bridge which would work in this situation also. They just replace your wireless card in this situation and then connect to your wired port.)

If I understand you right, you can use a router in the car, and thats ok but the router has to have some way to connect to the internet on the wan port. Unless you can figure a way for the wan port to get internet access you will not be able to surf the internet
doesnt sound like that is possible

NO!!! you could in basic terms connect one modem or router/modem to the line. something will end the relationship. there is not any such ingredient as a router repeater. And repeaters do not use telephone line voltages of 50v with a ninety v AC ringer. they are in a position to in basic terms cope with the minimum voltages (3v or perhaps much less) of a community connection. And in case you won't be in a position to tell the version between a telephone outlet and community outlet you may desire to not be messing with it your self, you may desire to get somebody who nows what they are doing to set it up. in case you insist on risking your kit you purchase a instantaneous repeater or variety extender. You connect it to a working laptop or laptop with a community cable to configure it to talk to the router by potential of instantaneous. then you definitely could desire to place it interior solid reception variety of the router and your furthest laptop. in case you won't be in a position to get solid sign to the two you are going to be able to desire to get greater beneficial than one and place each and each interior variety of the different and the router one end, the laptop the different.
