Hi
I have high speed internet on my desktop last night I wanted to sit on the sofa and surf the web so I unplugged the ethernet cord from the desktop and plugged it into my laptop. but low and behold it said it can not display the page. What ? Why?
I called charter and the guy offered me a networking package for another 50.00hook up fee and 9.99 a month but I dont want to network them I just wanted to surf sitting on my sofa. Why cant i just unplug the ethernet cord from the desktop and run it to my laptop for internet connectivity? I dont know a heck of a lot about this so please be gentle. Should I have told them I bought a new laptop and wanted to use it but when i hooked it up it said can not connect?GZZZZ

I am using AirtelBroadband with the speed of 100mbps. its not in a network. but unfortunately it is too slow that a 4 minutes file is taking 20 to 30 minutes to load it. a 30 minutes file is taking almost 3-4 hours to download. why its happening like that? Do you a suggestion to solve this problem?
I'm using WinXP professional, P4 processor, 1gb RAM, 12gb HD, cat6 cable. Please help.
Thanks

I have yahoo DSL service, with the 2fast modem/router. My wife has a laptop with wireless card, so she connect easily.

My son has a desktop. What is the easiest way to connect his desktop pc to the same DSL connection? His room is next to my office. The phone jack in his room does not currently work, or he could at least have dial-up. His PC is a few years old, but does have WinXP (we loaded this - It had Win98, I think)

I've tried everything I know how to do, but in the Network Connections options, I can only select WEP encryption. Is there any way to configure the laptop to connect to a WPA encryption, or do I need to reset the router's settings to WEP-128? I had trouble with my other laptop (Vista OS) connecting to WEP-128 also, so I'd like to keep the WPA encryption if possible. Thanks for your help in advance!!

My cable modem is connected to my desktop via the usb connection no ethernet card in the desktop. Can I connect the wireless router up with the ethernet port on the modem. The modem has both a usb port and a ethernet port. Bottom line can the cable modem have both the usb and the etherent connection used? Does the modem act as a hub itself sharing the IP address through both ports or is only one of the selected ports (usb, etherent) able to have an ip assigned to it.

Thanks in advance.

I've checked my wireless internet adapter in device manager, which is working. But when I power up my laptop, the LAN doesnt appeared. Being XP, its meant to be automatic. Is there anyway I can override this and make it work?

Anyone ever notice that number in the bottom left in the green oval? I put my mouse over it, and it says "You are sharing 223 files" ! ! ! It does that everytime i download the song. Is their a way to turn that off?

does it mabye mean that im sharing it with my network? (Because their is one modem in my house that shares internet with three computers)

Okay so here is the problem. I have lap top and my wireless works fine. But I also have another deskop computer and it has a cable plugged in for internet and it works fine. But when I plug that cable for internet in my lap top and try to connect through it with local area connection it says limited or no connectivity, and the internet doesnt work. So what could be the problem? It must be something with my lap top settings as the other computer works fine when I try to connect with it to internet.

Where can I view a sample LAN topology? And what are you opinions for the different types: bus, star, and ring. It seems that star would be best for a company that needs an enterprise telecommunications network. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

ok, I have a wired router and an xbox 360 that need to be connected. All the ports on the wired router are used up, and the router isn't wireless, so I can't use the xbox wireless adapter. Is there a way around this? Like where I can plug something into a port that switches between two LAN cables???

I have two routers:
Both are ADSL Modem Routers

- One F5D7632-4
- One F5D7630-4A

The only difference between the two is the F5D7632-4 has a few more features, such as Wireless Access Point and NAT.

So I have tried this, but don't know where to begin. What I essentially want to do is cut out the need for a wire between my room and my brother's. So to do this I need two routers, obviously.

The router in my room will be the F5D7632-4, as this is also where the internet connection is. The router in my brother's room will be the F5D7630-4A.

The router in my room has the following basic settings:
SSID: HOMENET
128Bit WEP Key
IP: 192.168.2.1
PPPoA Connection Type (to connect to the internet through ADSL)

The router in my room has the following basic settings:
SSID: HOMENET
128Bit WEP Key
IP: 192.168.2.101

Thanks for any help!

Despite trying everything I can not get any other computer to link to this PC over a LAN. Whatever I do the network cable unplugged icon will not go away! My suspicion is that the AOL softrware has completely taken over all networking for itself to connect to the internet and will not allow any other network.

I would be grateful for any expertise in this area. I have an oldish computer which doesn't seem to have a wireless enabled feature-I have checked devices- it is connected to my broadband ntl by a cable to a modem. I now have been given a work lap top- wireless enabled( so can access when all the kids are on big computer)and my hubby has bought an xbox 360 which he'd like to go online with. it is miles from the broadband point of entry. Can I buy a router that serves all my needs? If not can some kind person suggest what this trying but failing mum can do to get a grip of this technology? i would be pathetically grateful for any help.

I'm having wireless printing problems with my HP Photosmart C4380 All-in-One and my laptops, and HP attempted to fix the problem over the phone, but to no avail. The laptops will wirelessly print fine, but then a few days later I am told they can no longer print wirelessly. I've had to change ports, uninstall/reinstall the software, but the issue persists. So, they suggested the problem might be fixed if I set manual IP addresses, since the problem seems to be that when the dynamic IP address changes, a couple of computers are no longer recognizing it. I have a Linksys router. Which IP address am I supposed to manually change? The Router? The printer? How do I do whichever one will fix this issue?
