I've tried everything I know how to do, but in the Network Connections options, I can only select WEP encryption. Is there any way to configure the laptop to connect to a WPA encryption, or do I need to reset the router's settings to WEP-128? I had trouble with my other laptop (Vista OS) connecting to WEP-128 also, so I'd like to keep the WPA encryption if possible. Thanks for your help in advance!!

The really sad truth here is that not all 802.11b cards have the drivers available to support WPA. I tried with several cards to upgrade the firmware etc. Only to find, well, they wouldn't work, at least not as they should. You have to put time into perspective with these older technology cards.

There are a couple of options. You can run WEP (ok its not that secure but better than none) turn off the SSID and use MAC filtering. Or upgrade the card to one that will indeed support WPA.

128 wep with the SSID off and mac filtering enabled is pretty safe.. there are many easier targets out there so why would a free loader/cracker waste the time?

Merry Christmas and God Bless

I think that is a driver issue (or firmware). I would suggest looking for an updated driver to your card and further driver details. If you cant find it or its not support I would suggest reloading the NIC interface and start from scratch.
