There are two ways to go about making your desktop wireless. You can either use an internal or external adapter. Internal you can buy a PCI-E wireless card that snaps onto your mother board or external you can buy a usb wireless adapter. The usb is extremely slow so I do recommend getting the pci-e card.

you need an internet service provider to have the internet if you have a wireless router then you can hook up a wireless pc to the router now if you have a desktop you need a wireless card to make the desktop a wireless pc but you sill need to pay for the monthly fee for the internet.

I bought a usb wireless adapter for my desktop--it doesnt seem to be any slower like mentioned above. I did buy the Linksys one with speedboost for about $70. If you arent very computer savvy, its the easiest one to use--just plug it into the usb slot, and its ready to go. You can run 2 pc's off your router without paying extra.
