what you are looking to do is encrypt your signal with either WEP or WPA or some such.

Mostly this is done through a web based front end. Your router will have had a default IP address associated with it when it came out of the box. Somehwre in the web interface will be a "wireless security" tab with a number of settings.
WEP is not all that secure, WPA is better. WPA with mac address filtering pretty darn secure.

Go to your web interface by entering the router's IP address in to the URL bar of a browser on a computer connected to the router. The interfaces are fairly simple.
try ip address 192.168.1.1
if that doesn't get you anywhere
try 192.168.0.1
if that doesn't work google your router model along with the term "default settings" or "default ip" you should get what you need.
(I;m assuming you have the google because you seem to have the yahoo)
Good Luck!

You secure it by associating a password to it.

Read the instruction manual, because it's too hard to answer your question because you have not specified a brand or model.

The instruction manual would have to have them.
