Well for LONG distance you will need an amplifier and an outside antenna. You simply can't get 1 mile on the power out of a standard home router. (you might but not likely)

Visit http://hyperlinktech.com to see what is available for you.
They have amps and antennas which are designed for "ISP" and LONG RANGE use. They will have a combination that will work for you. You will also need to order the correct "interconnection" cables.

Good Luck -- God Bless and Merry Christmas

I you have clear line of sight no problem. Radio power is less significant than some realize as you are always limited by the FCC. Keep the RF cables as short and get a good directional antennae. A linksys wrt-54g running dd-wrt firmware is good for about 80MW, a mesh parabolic antenna is about $100, OFDM radios will get you better links than older DSSS. Ideally like a previous poster said a good radio but dollar for dollar antenna and short RF cable will net more distance as the ceiling is capped by total power as amplified by the antenna and radio + amps. I've gone 7 miles in a production environment for $300 both ends of the link carrying voice and data. The math is correct look for the formulas
