Is there anything I can buy, part and/or service, for my laptop so that I can get connected to the internet where ever I go? If so, what's the most popular? Best? Strongest connection? Thank you!!

Hi, I'm hoping to make a private Telnet server for me and a few friends however I'm behind a router that assigns my IP address so my server doesn't have a static IP. Does anyone know if I can connect to my Telnet server over the internet without having to plug my server directly into the modem?

Thanks in Advance

Ok, I'm fairly good at computers, but trying to create a VPN is blowing my mind, I think I need a step by step guide to this, so far I've had to restore my defaults because I cant figure it out, especialy on static IPs... Anyway I have an Emachines pc with Windows XP Home Edition, it is connected to a Linksys WRT54G Router, which is connected to my dsl modem (a Speedstream 4100/4200 series) and I have tried everything i can think of to make this work, as of now I've only been able to connect to my pc when my laptop is on my linksys' wireless network, if any one could help me out it would be greatly appreciated

I've been living with dial-up at home for the longest time and I'm tired of it. AT&T (my phone company) says they can't help me because my area doesn't have enough of something (can't remember what they said exactly).

I have Dish Network which offers internet, but it's way too expensive. The only other option is cable.....but I'm locked in to the satellite contract for another 6 months.

What are my options here........any advice?

Thanks.

I have a 6,000 kbps internet connection and a typical ping around 200 for my online gaming. Is this an appropriate ping for the connection speed? If not, what are some general tips to lower my ping?

I have one computer with cable broadband and on the other I use dial-up. I use a thumbdrive to transfer large files from one to the other, but this seems silly. The only information I can get from the ISP is that do-it-yourself networking is not supported. (They charge a ridiculous price to do it for you, of course.)

We have a broadband internet connection at home, but we just have one computer connected to the internet, I am going to have internet in my room, which is upstairs, and I want to make my network connection (or whatever it is called) really private. How can I do that?
I know they got to get the wire up to my room from the router downstairs, but how do I set it private, I dont want to share any files with the computer downstairs, nor to view their files or my files, how can I do that?

In fact, I dont want to share/ let them or me view someone's else files...

I am using a BT Voyager 1055 for wireless connection. No problems there. But sometimes when I boot up the PC, the small single "monitor icon" in the icon tray at bottom right indicates that it isn't connected to the homehub (even though it obviously is, otherwise no internet) with a red cross on it. Note I am not referring to the LAN network twin monitor icon. Sometimes it shows connection and other times not. I can "repair" the connection through Windows, but it does everything but clear the DNS cache, what ever that is, and then the icon shows connected. Anybody got the same issue, or any ideas on the cause/solution?

I recently bought a new computer with windows vista on it and have started learning how to network my computers. My desktop with vista on it is networked to the other desktop here (with xp on it) and my laptop with xp on it. I have them all in the same workgroup already and when they are all turned on my computer see both the laptop and the other desktop. I am able to print and everything and view files on the desktop with xp on it. However when I try to acess my laptop a message pops up that says "Cannot logon to this computer because I dont have permission". I went onto my laptop and made sure that I had file and printer sharing on. I am new at this and could use any advice that can be given.

What do I do to my laptop to be able to view the files on it?
Where is it on my laptop that I change settings to allow people to view stuff on it?

Anything anybody can tell me would be helpful, even advice on how to network.

Thanks.
