I'm tired of always being routed to UK sites and not being able to get onto other certain US sites while stationed overseas in the UK. Is there anyway to get a US ISP? or is there anyway to not necessarily switch my ISP but make my computer or internet think I am in the US? Sorry if this is completely ridiculus...I'm not very computer literate. Thanks for any help!

2 questions please! OK, I set up a wireless network a few months ago, but I am not very tech savvy. Lately, my signal appears to be going in and out (Even though my D-link shows my signal as low but connected, I keep loosing my internet access). Moving the router is NOT an option. What settings can I change on the router to possibly strengthen the signal? Do they sell antennas to pick up better clarity? Please explain how I would change settings on my router very specifically, as I am not familiar with network settings. Thank you.

Also, I have my wireless network currently open. I will be conducting business online, and need to secure my network, so that other people can't access it without a password. How do I go about doing this?

Thank you very much for any info. My router is a D-Link wireless G520 adapter.

Hi there, I am having trouble connecting our laptops to our wireless router. The laptops pickup that there is a signal there, but I keep getting the message, "unable to connect". It was originally set with WEP security, but now I have managed to go in and disable that, so it appears to be a totally open network. Both laptops do the same thing, thats why I am sure it is a problem with the router and not the wireless cards in the laptops. Any thoughts?

Cheers

Once I've got my super-dooper high speed connection, do routers have a "speed" factor that could ultimately hinder my vonage phone and internet performance? I only intend to use wired connections, so range/coverage isn't an issue. I don't want to waste my money on a fast connection just to end up with a sub-standard router that slows me down and causes choppy phone calls just b/c I happen to be surfing while I'm talking. So..do routers have a speed or other component that effect performance in a wired network?

Hi all,
I need to know how to setup a simple network using manual IPs, not Automatic IPs given by my Linksys Wrt45g router setup as "Automatic Configuration DHCP" under Internet Connection type.
My operating system is Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit

My ISP is Optimum Online and I believe I have Static IP.
I CAN either use Automatic DHCP or Static IP in my Wireless Router.
In the netwrk setup section, my local ip add is 192.168.1.1 // subnet: 255.255.255.0

This is the tricky part for me,
I enabled DHCP Server
Starting IP Address is "192.168.1.5"
Max numbers of DHCP users is "2" (I want it this way only).
Next Step, I went to my wireless network card and in the TCP/IPv4 Settings, I manually changed my IP to 192.168.1.5 // subnet 255.255.255.0 // def gateway 192.168.1.1 - In my other laptop I did the same exept 192.168.1.6. They're networkly connected but I cant connect to the INTERNET! I did this using the Static IP but no go! It works when IPv4 is set to automatic obtain

I have DSL. I am going to get a wireless router. I have a laptop. I was told that I have to have a computer connected to the wireless router at all times in order to get internet wirelessly to other computers. Is this true? I thought that once you were done setting up the wireless router with your modem that you didn't need to always have a computer pluged in to the router. My friend has cable internet and he doesn't have to have a computer connected at all times. What's the deal? Please help.

some kind of thing that allows you to connect two ethernet cables together, perhaps if one isn't long enough to span the distance between a computer and a router? if so, where can i get one?

With a lot of routers you can login to the administration and settings using an the IP address over the internet. Does anyone know whether you can do this with the BT Home Hub? On some routers I know that this privilege has to be 'turned on' whilst connected locally.

Ok i'll be very impressed if anyone can help me with this...

We have a network with one server and a few computers, the server runs windows 98, all desktops run windows XP.

We run a database on each desktop, which is located on a partion on the main hard disk on the server. The partition is listed as D: on the server, and T: on all of the desktops.

We have just set up a new computer (again running XP) on the network, but can't see the partition on the network that holds the database.

Does anyone know how to fix this? Help would be greatly appreciated!?
