Hi there, I am having trouble connecting our laptops to our wireless router. The laptops pickup that there is a signal there, but I keep getting the message, "unable to connect". It was originally set with WEP security, but now I have managed to go in and disable that, so it appears to be a totally open network. Both laptops do the same thing, thats why I am sure it is a problem with the router and not the wireless cards in the laptops. Any thoughts?

Cheers

THere many things in the routers setup that will stop you from connecting.

If DHCP is disabled, this is what hands out IP addresses to computers when they connect.

If Mac Filtering is enabled. This will only allow computers with a certain MAC address to connect to the router.

Those are just a few. I could tell you how to go in and check and change setting after setting but It would take longer to type then I have.

So this is what I suggest. Reset the router back to its default settings and then go back into its setup and input your ISP info and change the SSID to something you want and that should do it.

After that you can also turn back on the WEP or WAP wireless security if you want.....

Is the router hosting dhcp?

In other words, the router should be handing out IP addresses.

If one or both of your laptops has static IP address(es), that could be an issue.
