Ok i'll be very impressed if anyone can help me with this...

We have a network with one server and a few computers, the server runs windows 98, all desktops run windows XP.

We run a database on each desktop, which is located on a partion on the main hard disk on the server. The partition is listed as D: on the server, and T: on all of the desktops.

We have just set up a new computer (again running XP) on the network, but can't see the partition on the network that holds the database.

Does anyone know how to fix this? Help would be greatly appreciated!?

Make sure it was set up exactly as the same as the others that are able to read the network drive.

Probably the answer lies in the network setup of the new PC. The default to XP is something called "Simple File Sharing", you need to make sure that it is on the same setting all the other machines have. I think this setting should be off, if the main machine is Windows 98. Double check on a working machine, Go to a windows explorer window and choose Tools, then the Folder Options... item. Check what the setting at the bottom of that dialog "Simple File Sharing" is set to. It will either have the check mark next to it, or it will be an empty square. Then, once you know what the setting is, go to the new machine, Tools, then Folder Options... and set that "Simple File Sharing" the same way as the other machine. Also, check in the start menu. setting, network connections, and make sure the network is set up and working.

Hope that helps.

1) Can the new PC see the server? Go to "My Network" > view workgroup computers. If the server and the other PC aren't there, check that you've used the right name for the network or workgroup on that PC.

2) If it can see the server, but not the folder, log off on the PC as User and log on again as administrator. Now go to Control Panel > Users and change the User privileges so they can access network data.

You have several possible problems. First, be sure you've set up file and printer sharing on the new computer.
Second, disable windows firewall. It's pretty much pointless inside a local network (other than causing connection problems, for which it's famous).
Third, check your third-party security software (Norton and McAfee are both famous for screwing up network access/file sharing. Either ensure these firewalls are not blocking sharing as well, or disable them entireley.
Once you're sure you've got connectivity, just map a network drive. Choose drive T and map to \\\D
