I have Road Runner broad band internet from time warner cable. I also have a linksys router. I would like to change my ip address but i don't know how. someone told me that i can clone my mac address to change my IP address. I tried to do that function on my router configuration. Then i went to IP chicken and it said that my IP was different. Yet, when i tried to join a game that i was IP banned from it said that i was still banned and could not get on... Can anyone please tell me why is still said this.

When I first tried to set up my wireless router, I could use the internet (wired) through the router on my desktop but not the wireless. So I called the tech support (its a Buffalo Air System Turbo G router). They had me change some things on buffalo's install page (the address that is all numbers) including a MAC address? and how it detected settings (to automatically detect). I also was told to reset the router, unplug both the router and the modem, and do this several times in several different ways (I had to call twice, since my problem was not solved).

After the first call, I had a connection to the network on my desktop, but it was only sending, not receiving packets, and I was unable to connect to the internet. I didn't even try the laptop. So I called again, and did the same things again (listed above). I was told to just try unplugging both again for a half hour and setting it up again.
I have Windows XP, and am using Comcast DSL.

My laptop is wireless but my roommate does not have a wireless card in her laptop. Is there anyway that a router can support both her and my laptop without having to set up two seperate internet connections in the house? If so, what budget wireless/wired routers do you recommend? Thanks for any info!

If I got a wireless router, and for some reason the computer that has the actual modem got a virus, is it possible for that virus to spread from that computer to my desktop with the wireless router??

We have a strong signal from our wireless network. It is protected, however we have the WEP and everything. The problem is...we just can't get on the internet. On the main computer where the wireless is connected, that computer can't get online either.

All the while, it says our signal is strong.

What could be the matter?

I have just bought a wi fi enabled laptop and will want to use it to connect to the internet wirelessly. I am soooo confused. What do i need to connect? I have orange broadband coming through on a bt landline. is it a router or a modem router? what do all the numbers mean? does the type of router or make affect the speed of the broadband (just got 8 meg, dont want to lose any speed). I am normally quite good just got mega confused. Also, can I have my big pc connected to the broadband at the same time as the laptop? i understand that i can set up a network but one would be hardwired, whilst the laptop would be wireless. please please help me.

thanks
