well my modem broke last night and i have to use library computers...is there anyway i could use a phone or something in my house to plug in and replace temporaraly as a modem

no you actually need a modem for dsl or hi-speed to work.

I presume you mean the DSL or CATV (cable tv internet) provides you broadband and the modem is broken. You cannot use a dial up modem as a replacement.

Absolutely no. You need whether an internal/external modem, WLAN, or LAN card.
