The best way is to setup a VPN. (Virtual Private Network) This will allow you to have a virtual network over the internet. It will act just like a LAN (Local Area Network) but will work from different locations through the internet. Usually you should get a VPN router. You will be able to share files, applications, printers, etc.

A VPN would be the best idea. But most of them would require lots of configurations you probably won´t do (it´s not easy). The best ? i think you could use Hamachi, (https://secure.logmein.com/products/hamachi/vpn.asp) which was just bought by logmein.com. It creates a network between (actually it creates a VPN) any PCs you want. And it´s free and easy to configure !
