i just asked this question but didnt really get the answer i need so ill give more info this time. I have a windows pc and a mac laptop linked into the same network by a router. I can access my files that are on my laptop on my pc but i need to know how to access my pc files on my laptop. do i need to find an IP address and host name for the pc? if so how do i find that? also, how do i make sure sharing is enabled?

on your pc right click local disk C drive. go to sharing and
security and click want to root the drive.
go to the laptop in the network file and sharing click on the
local disk C and right click go to map drive it will show up
in my computer ... note in order to open progam files go 2 the
pc open local disk C go to porgram files drag an drop this folder to network shared documents know you can get your files open.to get IP address click start click run type cmd hit
enter then type ipconfig hit enter

First you have to have windows server 2003 installed on your desktop then you have to join your computer/notebook to a domain, and lastly after all that is done it might be really convenient for you to create a folder which includes all the files you want to share. Then after that you need to right click the folder, click on properties, then click on the sharing tab and the rest is self explanatory
