We have a strong signal from our wireless network. It is protected, however we have the WEP and everything. The problem is...we just can't get on the internet. On the main computer where the wireless is connected, that computer can't get online either.

All the while, it says our signal is strong.

What could be the matter?

Given that your wired computer can't connect too, the problem is from the router to your cable/DSL modem or to your ISP. The wireless strength will still be strong and the wireless system should be able to talk to your desktop, but you can't get to the Internet. You can try restarting the router but if that doesn't work, you may need to login to the router and through that interface, do a dhcp reconfig against the modem. If that doesn't resolve it, try contacting your ISP and ask their tech support staff for suggestions to verify that your modem is functional.

It depends on the type of wireless adaptor you have. If this is integrated wireless on a laptop possibly not. What you need to look for on your laptop is a port that allows you to put in an attena. Most integrated wireless won't have this. However, if it's an PCMCIA wirless card there should be a small hole in the edge of it to insert an attena cable. If you don't have this your only other option that I can think of is installing an external wireless adaptor that you can plug into your USB port. This will have a stronger signal then most.

Oh may I know this prob very well that has been happening to me alot! Try this it soulds funny but the nearest phone to your computer lift it up for a few seconds then put it back down. See if that helps. If you have a wirelss box that has lights on the front make sure they are not blinking if they are that means you can get loged on. If this doesnt work call your phone company. They just came out to my house and said that our phone line has a bad wire and they need to replace it. So try that! Hope i helped!

Try to get on without using wep and if that works then you will know wep is the problem. You then can try setting it up again with wep. Also, this happened to me before, disable your firewall and see if it works then. If it does then just enable the firewall again and configure it to let your connection thru.
