I just moved to Russia and signed up for DSL here. I setup my Netgear wireless router (WGR614v6) and set up the same wireless network that I had in the US. The only thing that has changed is my DSL modem (D-Link DSL-2300U) and Service provider (avangard.ru).
So now EITHER my laptop or desktop work, never both at once. The desktop is connected by cable to the router, the laptop by wireless. If I leave the laptop off, the desktop works fine. If I leave the desktop off and just the router on, I get wireless internet to the laptop. Is it possible that there is some sort of IP address conflict? I don't get any error messages. It works like this: desktop internet works fine, but, the instant the laptop connects to the netowrk, all internet stops working. After i disconnect either of the 2 devices from the network, internet resumes after a minute or a reboot of the router or modem.

Help! :)

Currently I have a desktop computer. I plan to buy a laptop in the near future and I would like to connect them to a wireless network. The thing is, I know nothing about networks. I don't even know where to begin. I just want to be able to connect to the internet and share files between the two computers. Can somebody please help? I am completely lost. I'm not sure what kind of laptop I want and I don't know what I need to connect it to my desktop computer.

Im curently using a netgear WGR614v6. Both wireless computers use Wirless-G, capable of 54ms. It needs to be fast enough for all 3 to play World of Warcraft at the same time.

Note: I ran jumpers from the 4 ports on the back of the existing modem to all three pc at the same time and it worked fine runnig all three with acceptable latencts of around 100(average) so i know my Internet speed can handel it.

Hey guys I just bought the laptop yesterday.
I asked the guy at the store if all I needed was the internal wireless because I am a college student that travels a lot. He said I can just use the internal, that I dont need to use a router.
So I get home and Whenever I connect to a network it will say little or no conectivity..
wat should I do guys please help me?

Whenever I try to go to the router IP adress (192.168.1.1) it takes me to a page that says Verizon (which is my ISP provider) and it has a box for user name and ID but when I try to put in the user name and ID it doesn't work and I cannot access the page that I need to configure the router. It's a Linksys router by the way.
