U need to provide more info. What are the symptoms of "losing the connection" If you use any instant messanger programs are they OK even though Web and Email stop working.
Do you connect via a router ?
Have you contacted your internet provider support line, if you think there is a problem, talk to them, after all if you don't get the service you pay for . . . . .

Your broadband connection has nothing to do with your ethernet connection. Check your broadband router for problems or ask your ISP.

Check the lights on modem/router when working fine. Re-check lights when connection lost. If there is a difference this could give an indication if you have a line issue or if no difference, its probably something with your internal set-up, cables, p.c., wireless (not your case as wired) or modem.

If there is a change in the lights usually the ADSL or @ light is the key indicator of a line fault (contention ration/bandwidth or attenuation issues), you need to contact your ISP with details, as something needs attention to fix problem

I suspect you mean to state:

1. I am able to connect to my router without a connection loss - or the LAN connectivity is working properly.
2. The connection from my router to the Internet drops for no apparent reason.

I suspect you know this because you

1. Opened command prompt (start, run - typed in cmd and hit enter).
2. Typed in at the command prompt "ipconfig /all" and hit enter and recorded your default gateway ip address (let's say it is 192.168.1.1 for example herein).
3. Then typed in at command prompt "ping 192.168.1.1" or whatever your IP address was and hit enter. You received 4 successful responses indicating the LAN connection was good.
4. Then in command prompty you typed in "ping 4.2.2.2"and hit enter and receive 0 successful responses.

If you did not do the above you do not know where the failure is, you are only guessing.

Let's assume you did as I stated above and you saw what I stated. Reboot modem, router, and pc, leaving modem off at least 1.0 minute, router off at least 1.0 minute longer than modem and pc off at least 1.0 minute longer than router. Now open command prompt and do the ping tests and see if you have 4 positive "ping 4.2.2.2" responses. If you do, then try "ping yahoo.com" and if you have 4 positive ping responsses we know that the router is configured properly for WAN IP and for DNS servers and all is working.

If you drop connection after a few minutes I suspec the problem is either at the ISP or you have defective firmware on the router.

First disconnect router and connect pc directly to modem and reboot. Download latest firmware for your router from router maker web site. Surf net for a while and see if your connection drops; if it drops with no router connected, the problem is likely at the ISP and you should call them. If you do not drop connection the router firmware upgrade needs to be installed.

ethernet is the connection type( from the PC to the device)
broadband is the Internet Service Provider (ISP) connection type (ie. modem(56k) - cable modem - DSL -etc )
solution: contact your ISP (verizon, company who you pay for internet service) and have them troubleshoot the connections, it sounds like you are experiencing interference in the lines causing your service to drop. its no big deal, this happens all the time, they can run troubleshooting diagnostic tests via the phone.. good luck.

That happened to me before. The connection would randomly terminate to all computer on my network and then reconnect.

If you are on a network and they are all doing it:
A virus (thats what mine was) (your isp may shut you down if u dont fix it)
Your Router has a problem

Just your computer:
Ethernet cable defected
Hardware problems (Ethernet port/care or w/e)

It might be a problem with your internet provider. Try giving them a call. They should be able to tell you what the problem is over the phone.
