Whenever I try to go to the router IP adress (192.168.1.1) it takes me to a page that says Verizon (which is my ISP provider) and it has a box for user name and ID but when I try to put in the user name and ID it doesn't work and I cannot access the page that I need to configure the router. It's a Linksys router by the way.

I think what is happening here is that the 192.168.1.1 is the setting for the Verizon router. Which is also the default number for all Linksys routers.

You need to get a straight thru network cable and connect directly to the blue Linksys router. Make sure the Linksys router isn't connected to any other networked device.

Also you will need to give your computer a static IP address.
In windows XP click start go to Connect to, then click show all connections. Find your Local Area Connection and right click and do properties.

In the next screen scroll down in the box to Internet Protocol TCP/IP and click once and then click on properties toward the right side of the screen.

Choose set static ip. Then for an IP address type 192.168.1.2 for subnet mask keep the default when you click it. I think it is 255.255.255.0 but I can't remember. Default gateway will of course be your Linksys router which is 192.168.1.1

Then hit ok and close out all the boxes. Fire up a web browser and in the address bar type 192.168.1.1 and press enter.

Username will be: admin
Password will be: admin

You will need to switch the linksys router IP to something other than 192.168.1.1 because that's the IP address of the Verizon unit. Change it to 192.168.1.2 to keep it simple. Then you will need to go back to your Local area connections and change the default gateway to 192.168.1.2 and change your ip address to 192.168.1.3.

Then work on setting up your port forwarding. After all that is done and taken care of. Put the router in line on your network, and then go to Connections on your computer and Change the Local Area Connection thing back to Obtain IP address Automatically

You need to answer the username and password for the *router* which is not necessarily the same as the one for Verizon. Every router has a different default username/password. For instance, D-Link has username "admin" and blank password.

If your Verizon setup came with a CD, use that to set up the router. Otherwise, find out the name and model of the router, go to the router help page on Verizon's website, and find the router username and password. Once you're in you can change router settings.

Verizon ships a multitude of different routers with their plans so you have to do a bit of research. You may even have received a piece of paper with this information.

Good luck.

try 'admin' for username and 'admin' for password. If that doesn't work, give Verizon a call if see if they know the password.
