i have aol broadband but a sky router how do i set it up?

I presume AOL broadband is in fact DSL that is terminated by a modem which feeds an Ethernet signal to your LAN and AOL provides a dynamic WAN IP address.

First confirm AOL works by setting your pc LAN port to obtain and IP address automatically. Plug a straight CAT 5 cable into pc LAN port and modem WAN feed port. Power down modem and pc. Wait 0.5 minutes at least and turn on modem; wait 1.0 min longer at least and turn on pc. You should have Internet connection. If not it is time to troubleshoot things and if needed get AOL involved.

Once this is working, connect router per router instructions. Set WAN port for Dynamic IP; set LAN port to provide LAN IP via DHCP. See manual for router on how to do this.

Power down router, modem, pc. Connect modem to router WAN port, pc to wired LAN port of pc, After power is off for at least 0.5 minutes, turn on modem. At least 1.0 min later turn on router. At least 1.0 min later turn on pc and you should have Internet on the pc. If not, troubleshoot router per router manual.

Once this works, add all other wired pcs.

If you wish to enable wireless, then do so using a wired connection to router and follow manual directions. If you do wireless be sure to implement security.
