Just unplug the monitor and plug it into the old computer. When you are done, plug it back in. simple as that.

You have a couple of options:

1) Some monitors can accept multiple input connections and they allow you to switch between input (i.e. Input 1 and Input 2).

2) An A/B switch device can take the place of a monitor that doesn't natively support multiple input sources.

3) A cheap KVM switch could be a solution for you to share a single Keyboard, Video display, and Mouse.

These really only make sense if you are pressed for desktop space as either would still only allow one system to be used at a time.

As for networking the computers, you can use a "cross over" cable. Normally the "cross over" is handled by the network device but a special cable crosses the wires between the connectors to eliminate the need of the device in a two computer setup. These computers would be stand alone and not have other access.

Not sure what you are after... do you want to connect both computers together or do you want to use the monitor on two different computers?

If you want to share the monitor (well, you can share monitor, keyboard and mouse plus USB or sound dpending on the model) you want to buy a KVM... it's a switch that allows one monitor, keyboard and mouse to be shared between two (or more) systems... connecting to one system at a time and switching between them while they all think they have a keyboard and mouse attached.

If you want to connect the two computers together so they can swap data... you can use an ethernet crossover cable between the two if they've both got a free RJ45 network connector. You can buy a USB crossover that will let them talk over a spare USB port on each computer.

Or if you've got DSL broadband with a router you can connect the second PC to the router and talk through the router you've already got.

Yes, you can. Just buy a kvm switch. I recommend D-Link KVM-2KU, the best I like.
The KVM-2KU 2-port mini KVM (Keyboard, Video and Mouse) switch kit is a cost effective kit for home and office users. This double function kit allows you to easily control 2 different PCs from a single set of keyboard, mouse, and VGA monitor, and to share a USB device with 2 PCs. It includes a 2-port KVM switch, a USB 2.0 port built into the switch, and 2 sets ofbuilt-in cables for ready connection to 2 PCs. The switch provides many easy-to-use features and is perfect for home and thesmall business.

I dont quite understand what you mean, you cant use the same monitor for 2 computers. You can use 2 monitors for 1 computer. If you just want to hook them up over the network but not wireless, use an ethernet cable.

You can share the keyboard, mouse and monitor between two or more computers by using a KVM switch or cable.

I use the Belkin brand of KVM switch cables with it's just 2 computers.

Yes, you can. As long as both PCs have a Network Card. You just get a Network Cable from Maplins or PC World and connect them together. However, one of the PCs needs to be configured as a "Server" and that will configure the access rights of the other PC. You will only be able to use the monitor on one PC at a time, which is obvious but you should be able to access files on both PCs at any time from any PC.

so you want one monitor one keyboard and one mouse to be shared to 2 computers? If yes buy a KVM switch Here is a cheap one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817707022. if you are trying to share data between 2 pc's without a router you could use a crossover cable to connect directly to both network cards.

You can connect the monitor with an AB switch. But talking about slowing down your machine, you can't both use the same monitor simultaneously.
