So I have a Westell Wireless router. I usually have a desktop connected right to the router with a laptop getting the wireless connection. But i'm pretty sure people are stealing my connection because my internet has been really slow. Is there a way to lock my connection so that only the desktop and the laptop can connect to my router?

ps:i set up a WEP from my laptop earlier but that also cut off my laptop. and i'm using a Dell laptop right now because my xbox360 is currently connected right to the router and not my laptop.

THANKS EVERYONE!!!

ok so my laptop just recently had an huge error and i had to do a pc recovery and completly restored it back to when i got it. Ok so i have a wireless network set up. I found the network i wanted to connect to from my laptop, entered the password to connect to it and hit connect, it seems to wanted to connect to it but it says "acquiring network address" and it just sits there and doesnt do anything, i literally left it for an hour and nothing. The signal strength is excellent so its not anything with the signal, i think its because the laptop is like new since i pc recovered and something may have been removed or messed up. Sorry if this isnt the best of information but im not very good with computers, and some professional set up my wireless network so i dont think its a problem with the host computer just with my laptop, any ideas on how to fix this? it was working fine before i pc recovered. I use a netgear router by the way. PLZ HELP!

Hello,

I have an ethernet cable run in my house. What I need to figure out is if there is such thing an ethernet switch that does not require a power source. (or something that can get this situation resolved)

Here is my situation:
I have a cable ran to my basement, and have a bedroom directly above the basement that needs an ethernet run. It is not possible for me to run a completely new cable from the original starting point, so I was somehow hoping to use the cable going to the basement, put a head on it, put it into a switch/hub/splitter and run a cable out of it to the room directly above, and use the other cable coming out to stay in the basement.

Is there something that can do this for me? Is there a better way to do so? What would you suggest? Thanks!

Ok so we are haveing this huge problem with our wireless internet. First of all right now our internet works fine ... im on it typing this question... however when we plug our dsl modem into our router and turn the router on it for some odd reason cant pick up a signal or if it can pick up a signal it never connects to it im sure its some sort of ip address thing but i dont know how to change it.. i think what i have to do is enter the routers ip address into the computer some how so it accepts it or change the routers ip address to what our modemms ip address is but i have no clue how to do either if some one could just have some step by step directions that would be great...
* it has nothing to do with the wireless card or being out of range
* also its not the router because we have tried 2

I am the admin (owner) of the router, sometimes i let others use it for internet browsing, is there any chance i could see what websites they visit? (this is just to check because i don't want them downloading files on my connection...) The router is SpeedTouch 780WL, so i would prefer something specific rather than a general answer which is no use to me...

I have a static IP address through my ISP and I'm looking for the best mix of hardware on a budget and setup advice to provide a VPN for remote access to my data and wired and wireless networking for my private LAN. The provider will not allow me to exhange their cable modem with a third party modem(their modem is an Ambit 4 port cable modem).

I am developing an application which has to contact a system through internet. I have tested the application in my office LAN. but actually aimed to make it work in internet.

I don't know how to test my application in internet environment.

My application has to connect the database system which has already installed in 192.168.2.8(Its my office's LAN IP).

My office have internet connection with static ip and also a router for our LAN.

In LAN we have 10 systems IP ranging from 192.168.2.1 to 192.168.2.10.

How to configure my LAN so that my application(which runs in a computer which is out side of my office) will be able to connect to the database which has installed in one of my office system?

Can anyone give idea about it?

Regards,
Purusothaman A
