ok so my laptop just recently had an huge error and i had to do a pc recovery and completly restored it back to when i got it. Ok so i have a wireless network set up. I found the network i wanted to connect to from my laptop, entered the password to connect to it and hit connect, it seems to wanted to connect to it but it says "acquiring network address" and it just sits there and doesnt do anything, i literally left it for an hour and nothing. The signal strength is excellent so its not anything with the signal, i think its because the laptop is like new since i pc recovered and something may have been removed or messed up. Sorry if this isnt the best of information but im not very good with computers, and some professional set up my wireless network so i dont think its a problem with the host computer just with my laptop, any ideas on how to fix this? it was working fine before i pc recovered. I use a netgear router by the way. PLZ HELP!

When your computer is "acquiring network address" it is waiting for the router to send one to it. Try rebooting the router and see if the problem is repaired. Mine does this about once every two to three weeks. Just unplug the power from the router wait one full minute reconnect power and wait for all the lights to settle down. (usually takes two minutes or so) Then see if you can get an address.

Try to do a ip release and renew. The simplest way is to go to network places, network connections and do a repair. If that doesnt work hit the start button, get a command prompt and the at the prompt type " ipconfig /release" and hit the enter key. Then type " ipconfig /renew" . That should do it. If that doesnt do it unplug the power from your router for 30 seconds and then plug it back in.

If that wireless card is not built-in you need:

1.) If the software was installed with the card plugged, uninstall the software and and unplug the card;
2.) install the network card software without the card plug in;
3.) after the installation plug the card and run the network card software.

goodluck...
