So I have a Westell Wireless router. I usually have a desktop connected right to the router with a laptop getting the wireless connection. But i'm pretty sure people are stealing my connection because my internet has been really slow. Is there a way to lock my connection so that only the desktop and the laptop can connect to my router?

ps:i set up a WEP from my laptop earlier but that also cut off my laptop. and i'm using a Dell laptop right now because my xbox360 is currently connected right to the router and not my laptop.

THANKS EVERYONE!!!

i'm using InterPROSet Wireless.

and it says Profile Name and the Network name. and it shows that's locked, because i just made the WEP for it.
underneath that theres a box with the available networks and it shows the a couple of other routers, but i double click mine, and a pop up opens up and lets me choose the connect or configure, if i click connect, it won't let me and if i configure it takes me back to how i made my WEP

You need to log into your router and setup the WEP key there before you setup the WEP key in your laptop.

Remove the WEP in your laptop and log into your router and set the WEP key. Then when you try to connect again using the laptop it will prompt you to input the WEP key you just setup in the router.

What is your question? You shouldn't use WEP as it's easily cracked. Use WPA, if you have it. Or just put the modem in bridge mode and get a linksys router and that will play nice with your laptop. Windows XP is able to use WPA. You just need to configure htat in your router and add a pass phrase. There should be a page in either device that shows which computers are connected, so then you can see if you currently really have people sling-shoting off your network.

Creating a WEP is a great start. If your laptop disconnected after that is because you need to configure the WEP key on it to. Open up your wireless connection and change the security settings to use the same WEP key as your router.
Good Luck.

There is a way in order for you to lock the Internet connection just for your desktop, xbox and the laptop only. That is enabling the MAC filtering on your Westell router. Hope it help.

Get the MAC addresses for the desktop and laptop. (Right click on your two computer monitors lower right on your screen - click Status - Support - Detail tab - physical address is your MAC address. Go into your Westell router and use MAC filtering - entering the MAC addresses of your two computers.
