Ok so we are haveing this huge problem with our wireless internet. First of all right now our internet works fine ... im on it typing this question... however when we plug our dsl modem into our router and turn the router on it for some odd reason cant pick up a signal or if it can pick up a signal it never connects to it im sure its some sort of ip address thing but i dont know how to change it.. i think what i have to do is enter the routers ip address into the computer some how so it accepts it or change the routers ip address to what our modemms ip address is but i have no clue how to do either if some one could just have some step by step directions that would be great...
* it has nothing to do with the wireless card or being out of range
* also its not the router because we have tried 2

Ok, you really should follow the installation guide when installing your router. If you, and many others, would do that half the questions here would never even be posted.

Here is the physical connections you need.

-Cable from the wall to the Broadband Modem
-Ethernet Cable from the Broadband Modem to the Routers WAN (Internet) Port (Do not plug into a ethernet port, only the WAN Port)
-Install the Wireless adapter into your computer by following the installation instructions

When you have connected to the router on your computer you now need to configure the router. The Best way to do this is to follow the instructions in the install guide. Since you have not said what maker and model you have here are some generic instructions.

-Open a web browser on your computer and in the address bar type the IP address of your router. Usually it is 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1
-A window should come up asking for the username and password to access your routers configuration. Usually the default username is Admin and the password leave blank
-Find the WAN or Internet configuration section and select your internet connection type. If you have DSL then select PPPOE and input the Username and Password you use to connect to your ISP. If you have Cable the select Dynamic IP as your selection.
-Reboot and that should do it.

I wonder if the issue is router configuration or MAC address conflict.

I presume your internet WAN IP address is dynamic. Make sure the router WAN port is set for a dynamic IP. Make sure your router LAN ports are set to provide DHCP to the computers.

Turn off the DSL modem and router, Leave them off 30 seconds. Connect modem and router (see if you need a straight or cross cable - check with ISP and router manual on this). Turn on DSL modem, then turn on router. Reboot pcs. This should do it

If not, write again telling us that you did all the above.

Your question doesn't make sense, you say u have the internet working b/c u r on YA, but when u attach your DSL modem, you lose the internet?

How do you have the internet now if the DSL is not attached?

Are you using a neighbors unsecured wireless and are unaware of it?

ok, i had the same problem. i stewed for 2 hours in a pool of sweat and frustration. bingo ! I called the routers 1-800 number and in 15 min i was up and running. If you cant do that call your service provider. good luck.

Is your Security up to date? I had the same problem yesterday, and this morning had a message from McAfee to tell me my renewal subscription was due. No trouble since!
