I have a static IP address through my ISP and I'm looking for the best mix of hardware on a budget and setup advice to provide a VPN for remote access to my data and wired and wireless networking for my private LAN. The provider will not allow me to exhange their cable modem with a third party modem(their modem is an Ambit 4 port cable modem).

Any basic Wireless router with VPN capability will work for you. I like to use D-Link equipment myself. Here is what I would recommend.

D-Link DIR-130 VPN Router
D-Link DWL-2100 Access Point
D-Link DWL-G650 Wireless Adapter (For Laptops)
D-Link DWL-G132 Wireless USB Adapter (For Desktops)

Hope this helps........
