I have a question if I get myself a wireless router for my DSL modem. If I get a router will it slow my internet speed?

No, even 802.11b routers, working at 11Mb/s, are faster then most internet connections. Now if you are doing some heavy downloading on one computer and trying to do the same on a second computer you might see a slow down, but that wont be because of your router, thats just because the downloads are bandwidth hoggs.

Nope, your signal would have to be pretty crappy to slow down the speed as the speed from your computer to the router is way faster then your dsl's connection to the internet. Adding the wireless router could add some latency which is essentialy the response time to request back and forth but your are talking usually much less then a second.

see the router is a device which works on network layer.
so if u add additional hardware in ur DSL setup, definatly it will effect on speed, but u better to use DSL at 512KB bandwidth, so u may take benefit of ur router and DSL speed.

Rather than just add a router, I would buy a ADSL router/modem there's not much difference in price and life will be so much easier for you. and your speed will remain the same.

It depends on various circumstances, such s distance to the router from where you are, any network interference, what your walls are made of. Things like that but generally I would say the slightest bit that you would not recognize.

If you are not sharing your internet with anyone than your speed is not affected, else if you mis configure you router than your neighbors can use your internet and you will get less speed.

so configure router correctly.
