I thought this thing was supposed to get 30 MPG on the highway and a good 23 MPG for the streets. Anyway I slice the cheesecake pie, city or just albout all highway driving, I get a terrible 17-19 MPG with it.

It's not right, I'm supposed to be doing better than that.

When replacing your tires does it matter if you get a different brand as long as the size is the same. I want to take my spare a BF Goodwrench P245/70R16 and replace the rear tires. However I am finding it hard to find the same brand tire. If I buy a Firestone of the same size will it be alright?

I have a 2005 Toyota Corolla. Today the check engine light came on and the code reader read 1 code "P2716 Press Cntrl Solenoid D Electrical". The ppl at the autozone don't know what that means. They said that maybe I didn't tighten my gas cap. (Hmmm) I tried that and the light is still on. I am pretty sure that the light neds to be reset, right? But still, I don't think that was what the code was for. Does anyone know where I can find out, or better yet know what it means?

The car does not shift above 2nd gear (it's an automatic transmission, too).

Typically, how much does it cost to have a mechanic repair this problem?

I have a 18-speed Next Bike it is in pretty good condition other than some rust, but when you are riding in any gear after about three full pedals it clicks. What I mean by clicking is that is clicks like you are changing gears even though you arent. I was thinking something was wrong with the cable. If you know anything about bikes I would appreciate you answer my question. I'm needing to know what the problem is and how to fix the problem if it is fixable.

I opened the box under my hood of my 97 Dodge Stratus. It is the box that says "multipoint fuel injection" on top. It is a 2.4 engine. I stupidly sprayed a lot of starter fluid in what I think was the air intake inside, and it blew the top off and broke it. I have had the car repaired with a new fuel pump, and sensors ($1050) and the tech said I must get a new "air box" for it to run corrrectly. Right now he duck taped it and it starts ruf, once it runs a little while it runs fine. He says it is because I need a new "air box" that seals better. I call parts stores and they don't know what I am talking about. What do you call this?

Everyone and their mothers has told me to never change transmission fluid on a vehicle with high mileage (150,000+). My father who is good friends with a guy at a Ford dealership even said the same thing. He said if it wasn't changed on a regular basis to just leave it be because the transmission is so used to the old fluid.

Again, he said to leave it be ONLY if it hasn't been changed on a regular basis. Is there any truth to this at all? Also, when are you supposed to change the transmission fluid? Every 30k or 40k miles?

I have an AUTOMATIC 94 Ford Explorer. It was start. I can put it in REVERSE (and it drives) and Neutral but the shifter will not go into D D2 or D1. If it was legal to drive in reverse whereever I need to go then I would... Does anyone have any tips for me? If I could just get it into DRIVE I could make it 6 blocks to the mechanic. The EBrake isn't on. I am shifting it correctly. I've had the car for over a year- It worked fine yesterday.

I have owned this car since 1990 and for the past 7 years have not been able to drive it. I am able to start it when it has not been run for a few hours, but when the engine gets to operating temperature and I try to start it, it acts as if it is flooded. The engine was rebuilt, which gets rid of the low compression answer. The injectors are fine, the computer was replaced...yadda, yadda, yadda. I have had this car to three very good mechanics, and none of them have been able to fix it. I am at my wits end. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

ok, thanks to everyone who helped me with the whole alternator thing. i realize now that most likely, it is what they said...the solenoid on the starter, or the battery terminal connectors, etc. but i have another question now, i suppose...how do i check these things? (im sorry, i don't know much about cars...although i want to!). like, where is the solenoid, how do i check it, or how do i check to see if it's the connections...or do i just get someone at an auto store to check it for me?

also, how much does it run to replace these kinds of things?

thank you!

Car runs rough when giving it gas. It acts like it is cutting out and coming back on really fast, but intermittently. checked plugs and they are perfect. Took gas line off of carb to check inline filter and it is clear. However, the gas they came out of the line had alot of bubbles in it. It bubled out like the fiz on pop when you pour it into a galss. What could cause this and do you think that is the problem?

Vehicle-- 1987 GMC v1500 4x4 350 tbi auto

Check engine light comes on but the truck will not give me any trouble codes only the number "12" trouble code which is "system pass". Is this truck not storing the codes anymore?Anyone else have this problem in where the check engine light comes on but the computer is not displaying any signs of trouble?Whats up??Thanks.

I am only using the simple jumper key(not a code scanner) to access the codes from the computer and just counting the amount of times the check engine light flashes.

My 89 Lebaron has a 2.5L Turbo and started running really rough. it doesn't stall but hesitates, especially when starting off. I ran trouble codes on it and I replaced the MAP sensor at the tune of $68.99 and it didn't do anything for it. I need to pinpoint what is wrong with it before I keep buying all these expensive sensors. It doesn't overheat at all, it just runs crappy. Don't know what to do!

My car is a '97 saturn SC2...we just got it a couple weeks ago. lately, if i stall (im trying to learn how to drive it, as it's stick shift), the car won't turn back on. the air conditioning and radio will, so i don't think it's the battery...especially since we bought a new one a week ago.

when i turn the key, i hear a "click." someone said it could be the starter, someone else said it could be the alternator. can't push start it or anything. jump-starting it helped, but it only shuts off again (if i stall, of course) a little bit later on.

so....is it my starter, or could it be my alternator? i know an alternator runs around a hundred to two hundred bucks, but how much is it to have someone actually install it? i could possibly do it myself, but it seems kinda hard (at least on the directions i found online).

thanks for the help!
