I have owned this car since 1990 and for the past 7 years have not been able to drive it. I am able to start it when it has not been run for a few hours, but when the engine gets to operating temperature and I try to start it, it acts as if it is flooded. The engine was rebuilt, which gets rid of the low compression answer. The injectors are fine, the computer was replaced...yadda, yadda, yadda. I have had this car to three very good mechanics, and none of them have been able to fix it. I am at my wits end. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Heat may create a vapor lock. ~
Check all places where your fuel line may get to close to the engine or exhaust system.

This sounds very much like what I went through with my car. Different make, but very similar problem, and same problems with dealership diagnostics. Eventually I solved it myself.

Solution, in a few steps:

I am sure your mechanics will have already checked the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor and found it proved OK on every computer test.

What to do?

1-Remove the present Mass Air Flow sensor.. (MAF)

2- Ignore the results of any and all tests that have been done on the current MAF sensor and scrap it.

3-Install a new MAF sensor.

4-Check all electrical connections to the new sensor.

5-Drive away happy.

I know it sounds stupid but rotary engines are notorious for this........replace the spark plugs.....These rotary engines are the weirdest things...It could be running great one moment then all the sudden no start due to spark plugs fouling out which they do all the time. Make sure you only use the NGK's as these work the best for this car.

Good luck

Listen to me very carefully. I've owned 4 rx7's and by ex perience your symptoms are telling me that you probably tried to change the sparkplugs on your own or you turned the engine on one day and quickly turned it off. I have good news for you if you live in NYC. There is a place on liberty ave. right off of the van wyck in Jamaica Queens N.Y.called T&R racing right on Liberty ave. and Merrick Blvd. All they do is fix Rx7's You should checkout their website, They are the best. Don't forget the name T&R Racing. You'll thank me later. Trust me!!!!!!!!

Maybe it's not a fuel problem.
Maybe it's an ignition problem? No spark?
