I have an AUTOMATIC 94 Ford Explorer. It was start. I can put it in REVERSE (and it drives) and Neutral but the shifter will not go into D D2 or D1. If it was legal to drive in reverse whereever I need to go then I would... Does anyone have any tips for me? If I could just get it into DRIVE I could make it 6 blocks to the mechanic. The EBrake isn't on. I am shifting it correctly. I've had the car for over a year- It worked fine yesterday.

Wiggle the steering wheel while shifting. ~
If that doesn't do it, check the shift scheme where the shift lever goes down to.

Did someone drop a bic lighter into the shifter mechanism keeping it from moving all the way back?
(center console shifter)

Look under the truck, is there a branch, dead body, or something jammed in the shifter linkage on the tranny?

Do your brake lights come on?
There's a solenoid that releases the shifter when you push on the brake pedal that may be messed up.
