Maintenance & Repairs - June 2007

I have a new 2007 Ford Ranger light pickup that I drive maybe 150 miles per month in moderate suburban traffic. It could be years before my 5000 mile service is due.

Is there any sort of regular maintenance I should do before then? Oil? Filters? Tires?

I'd appreciate any expert advice.

I used to work in the suburbs and used to drive everyday. I would get an oilchange when needed. But now I work downtown and take the train to work and only drive on the weekends if I need to. I last got an oilchange in Feb. Do I still need to get one when I'm supposed to? Or can I wait till the oil gets low???

I thought it was the abs cable but now im not so sure. It's basically the wire that clips to the shock (front shocks) and then runs down to the caliper. I posted a question this morning but I didn't really explain what the issue was.

Basically it looks like the wire has been chopped or some how split by itself. So my brakes don't feel normal when I brake and also the brake dash board light is on even though all brakes around the car have been changed. The ABS light is also on. This light came on a few weeks before the brake light came on so I got my brakes checked and all seemed fine.

I'm not good with technical side of cars. I just drive them, I want to get all these problems sorted out. If I can find out the name of that cable that runs to the brake caliper then I can buy it, get it fitted then get the brake system bled again. Maybe that might sort out the problem.

I have a 1995 Chevy 1500 truck and it started shaking a few days ago after starting it. Today it shook while I was idle, and it also wanted to rev up when I was applying the brake, then when I got to the parking lot, it went out and the dashboard lights came on. That's when the power steering was out and I had to use the emergency brake to park it. What could cause this?

Heres another dumb question, but it really bugs me. I recently bought a new SUV. I always wash the car myself. For drying the windows, I purchased a long handled squeegee so I could reach the windshield without using a step stool (I don't like to use one, afraid of falling, I'm old) This is from Pepboys and the squeegee part is 10 inches wide. Because of the curve of the windshield it does not make a clean swope. I have a narrow one and that does the trick on the back window. My question is do you know of anyone who makes and sells and long handled "narrow" squeegee to clean the windshield with? Thanks in advance.

ok well I drive a 2001 Grand Am and today I got into the car and started to drive and went to signal and I heard this grinding noise and the signal lights aren't working, so then I start hitting the steering wheel and stuff around it to see if something was loose and I felt above my radio console part it was viberating so I hit it really hard and then my signal lights started working again.

What could be loose? How can I fix it? How much will it cost?

p.s. I'm a guy i'm just using my girlfriends yahoo to post this just so some of you dont get any ideas of calling me a typical girl or something.

Okay so this is my third time around so here we go.

1. Oil Overheats (smoke from engine)
2. Radiator slightly dirty
3. Car skips/ticks
4. may be a loss of power
5. oil was leaking from oil pressure switch but has been _____________replaced, but car is still ticking.

Questions:
1.Could the cooling system have some sort of sludge that is preventing it from cooling the engine?
2. I've been told to flush the radiator, but I don't think just using water is going to get the gunk out ( I flushed it once and it still looks pretty bad) so should I use one of the acid flushes from auto zone or somewhere?
3. Should I use a enging oil additive to try and reduce the oil overheating, I think there may be a little build up there too (I changed the oil about two weeks ago using mobil one synthetic 5000)

Thats it for now, hopefully this can be resolved. Thanks

The car's engine is "catching" and it doesn't want to give me any juice when the light turns green, for example. I should call it the Puttermobile. Someone at the auto parts store told me that he thought it was bad gas with water in it, and to just wait until I could get new gas in the tank. Yesterday, however, the service engine light came on. When I popped the hood, I saw the cap to the oil was off. My car leaks oil and it can get down pretty low and the light never comes on. What do you think the problem could be--that the cap was off (is now replaced), that got down to practically no oil right before this started, or still the possibility of bad gas? I know I need to take it to a mechanic, but no $$$ right now to do so. Thanks.

Also, it is a 1999 Dodge Caravan.

i have a possible electrical problem. i have the dashboard info where it diplays the outside temperature, miles and whatnot. when i put my headlights on and turn my directional on that display flashes on and off, im hoping its not the start of an altenator problem. also, i have 30,000 miles on it and i have a knocking noise in the front end when i take a right had turn, not so much when taking a left. but now im noticing what sounds like a right front strut banging. i have heard that the stratus's have front end problems. could it be possible that i just need struts in the front, or maybe its bearing or the rack and pinon steering??
