Hello i just bought a car today but some pratt has painted the dashboard in black housepaint. Ive tries using an electric sander, but no luck. Could i use a paint stripper on my dashboard but it is plastic. If i cant use it has anyone got any ideas of how to remove the paint?

DO NOT use chemical strippers it will meltthe plastic.
They make after market dash covers that are pretty nice these days. Search around on the web. Even if you get the paint off I would bet the dash is in bad shape underneath.

Try places like this, they actually look good when installed properly.

Definitely do not use paint stripper it will damage the plastic. You could try a hair dryer to soften the paint while using a paint scraper. However, I think you will not be able to get rid of it completely so the answer might be to go to the scrap yard and see if you can get one cheaply, or better still, try Ebay.

Check with auto salvage yards to see if you can find a used dash. If so, replace it.
