we have a key with a chip in it and car wont start. what would be the best way to fix it. or can we just change the ecnition and key?

Have towed to your dealer.

Have to have a dealer or locksmith with VATS system tester test the system and see if it's a bad key, ignition cylinder, module or something else. They had some problems on those where the little wires running from the ignition cylinder--where you put the key in--would fray and break over time. Came out with a revised cylinder if I remember. Sometimes spraying contact cleaner--from Radio Shack--into the ignition cylinder and wiping off the contacts for the chip in the key with a q-tip will solve the problem if the cylinder contacts are really dirty.
