my car is mercedes 350sdl (turbo diesel).

this problem is really odd. I have great pickup from a red light to Go, but it is very poor from a moderate speed , say 40mph, to a high speed 60mph or above.

what is REALLY odd about it is that if I use the cruise control system to speed myself up (instead of pushing the gas pedal), the pickup seems good.

For example I was on the highway last night doing about 55mph, I wanted to accelerate to around 75 so I push down - nothing happens ... I floor it - nothing happens really, it does eventually speed up but it is verrry slow and there was no pickup at all.

It seems like the engine is not getting enough power?? But why would it be good at low speeds...

my mechanic is going to test drive it tomorrow so hopefully he will figure it out.

when I go to have "maintenance" done at a service station , what do I ask for if I want the engine/acceleration completely checked / gaskets make sure there are no cracks etc.
Thanks in advance.

I have an 84 Suburban with a 6.2 Diesel engine, I just put a new starter on and it keeps breaking bolts and grinding the flywheel, had to replace flywheel once. Still cant get it to work right for more than a day or so before it break another bolt or just starts to grind. Please, if you have any ideas let me know.

Is it bad or does it just plain waste gas? I usually let my car idle for awhile before I take off to let the engine get off of the cold mark. I'm also looking into a remote car starter that would run for about 10 mins or however long you set it before shutting off again. So that leads to my question.

I have replaced the water pump, radiator, thermostat, hoses, and head gasket. In the last two months, the heater blows as cold as ice, and the car runs near hot after 5 miles, any ideas would help. The mechanic I use says the head gasket needs to be replaced again, (did this last year). Hellllp!!!!!

I need the measurements of a 1971 Impala coupe steering column. I am ordering an Ididit chrome column and need to know the length of the stock steering column so I can get the Ididit column the same as stock. I bought the car without the original column so I can't get the correct measurements from my column. Any help would be nice Thanx

I have this issue where sometimes when I turn the ignition the dashboard lights and everything flashes on but the engine doesn't turn or react. If I do this a couple times I will eventually hear a soft clicking noise and then 2-3 tries after the engine will finally ignite and rumble to life.

So far I've always been able to get the car started - it can just take several turns of the ignition.

If it makes a difference, it's a 1977 Chevy Nova (350 v8).

I'm thinking it may be the starter or the alternator, but you guys may well know better than I.

I'm not looking for any joint/spliff/weed/ganga jokes.

My new jaguar just got keyed twice, one is about 2 in. long and the other is about 6 in. long. I know, you will think it is my fault for getting it keyed, but I only drive it to school, and I park where no one else is so they won't dent it. The car is white, but can anyone give me an estimate on how much it might cost to get it fixed?

I don't want answers like "Why would you want to do that?" or "That's a big job...I wouldn't bother." All want to know is whether or not it is possible....and potential roadblocks along the way.

I would assume, that since this model was originally made available with manual transmission as well as automatic, that all you would need is the manual tranny, the extra pedals and hardware, and to possibly cut two new holes--one for the pedals to be put in, and another for the stick shift.

Anyone ever done this kind of thing before, and if so...any advice?

What's the little black 'valve' thing that's connected to the washer pipe near the washer bottle for? Water sprays out of a small hole every time I wash the windscreen! I assume it's faulty. Is it really necessary or can I just remove it and connect the pipe straight to the motor? Can I buy a new one? What's it called?

I have a 2001 silverado with no fuel pressure. I pulled off the fuel line before the fuel filter and turned the key and there was nothing. I changed the relay and it still didn't work. Is there anything else that would cause the fuel pump not to run?
