My car repair manual says to use a univeral joint for putting the spark plugs back in... no idea what it means... whats it look like and when can i get one. With a name like univeral joint is sounds like a useful tool.

I'm not looking for any joint/spliff/weed/ganga jokes.

lol-- ganga.

Generally, a universal joint has swivels in it that allow what's turning on either end of it NOT to be a straight line.

You're looking for a univ. joint for a ratchet/socket arangement because the you probably don't have a straight shot to your plugs so you have to angle the extention from the socket.

Look at the link for a picture of one....

A universal joint is a mechanical device that allows the turning force on an axis to be applied at an angle to the original axis.
I simple terms if you are trying to tighten the spark plugs on your car and the spark plugs have limits space around them to get your tools into you can use a spark plug socket with a universal joint to get into the available space.
Normally most socket sets have a universal joint in the box with the sockets.

It's the joint that allows your car to turn into any bar.

OK! You did say no jokes.

The universal joint allows your plug wrench to bend around corners and still apply rotational torque. That is to say, to put the plugs back in you likely can't get a straight run to the plug hole from the ratchet.

It is more universally called a "wobble joint. It has a reg. socket on 1 end and a swivel in the middle. the other end is either 1/4,3/8 or 1/2 drive. That end is where your ratchet goes.Socket goes on other end. Hope this helped !!!

what? a universal joint is what connects your driveshaft to your axle. Unless they mean a type of extension for s socket wrench that allows you to get into tight spots. Go to Sears and look for the Craftsmen tools.

its a knuckle that goes between the ratchet and the socket to give it more flexibility rather than a straight bar
