The ford timing belt renewal interval is 100 000 miles / 10 years. My question is if a ford focus 1.8 petrol has covered 100 000 miles or is 10 years old, and the mechanic changing the timing belt and tensioner considers that the idler pulley is still working properly and doesn't change it, how is the car owner supposed to know when or if in the future it will need doing?

I have a 99 Mustang and for some reason it's stuck in the defrost blow direction. I'd really like an idea of where to start looking to resolve the problem.

Double clutching and complete stop sometimes helps; works well after it warms up. Has 83,000 miles on it.

I have a 2001 Chrysler Voyager 2.4L. The check engine light came on, so I used my code reader to figure out why. Code P0301 cylinder one misfire is what came up.
What does that mean, and how can I fix it?

HOOAH!

How do you know if you need to replace just the brake pads and the rotor, or just the brake pads? I hear a lot of mechanics tell you that you need to replace both, but how do you know if your rotor needs replacement?

I know, every 3000 miles...

However, is it possible to take some oil out with the dipstick and "inspect" it? What should I look for?

The plastic piece on the A pillar of my driver's side recently fell off for one reason or another. I'm definitely missing the one screw that holds the piece to the actual metal pillar, it's primarily sealed with adhesive. I don't have the screw but am looking for a temporary solution. What kind of adhesive should I use to glue the plasitic pillar to the rubber (or whatever it is) so as not to damage anything.

I recently fitted a new caliper and felxi hose to cure a braking problem on my car. The brakes were beld using a pressure bleeder and we couldn'#t see any more air coming out, however the brakes feel spongy and have alot of travel in them before they operate. Have i not bled them enough?

I have a 97 Cadillac DeVille with a Northstar motor. I have to keep adding coolant (dextrol at $17/gallon!!) I can smell antifreeze once in a while, dont seem to be leaking any. I am really starting to notice it when I back up into my exhaust. I assume this means I am burning it through my motor.... so obviously I know it needs to be brought in. I have an appt for next week - but dont want to get screwed because I am not exactly "car savvy". Can you please tell me what you suspect it is, and what I can expect to have done to fix it??
Thank you so much!

I have a 97 Cavalier that when in 4th gear (around 55-70mph) you can feel a lurch in the engine. Almost as if the engine wants to quit running or like it can't find the right gear to be in. Any ideas?

Hello,

I went to the gas station three days ago and now my car is broke down! Found out that the gas station was pumping water in everyone's cars instead of gas.

Now, I am stuck with no car and have to pay almost 1100 dollars to get my car fixed. I don't have the money to pay for the damages.

How can I get the gas station to pay the damage? Contact a lawyer or what? Anyone out there that had problem like I do and what I should do? Please let me know.

Thank you all and have a great day! :)

My beetle is coming up for an 80,000 mile tune-up and I wanted to know how much it would cost. Or if there are any independent VW auto repair shops that could do it cheaper than a delarship (around the Los Angeles area).

I'm sure ever town has them, the cheap oil-change places. In my town it's called "Precision Lube", and who knows what brand oil the put in my car.

In your experience, is motor oil pretty much the same?, or should I have reason to worry if they are putting the cheapest stuff they can find into my car?

99 BMW 528i - 77k - automatic
Complete list of symptoms:

1. rough, uneven start from 0 - 20 mph
2. when slowing down and releasing gas pedal it doesnt seem to go to neutral, it feels like it is in 1st or 2nd gear.
3. transmission fluid looks brownish, not sure if there is burnt smell... some metal dust on the magnet

Some other info:
- one of the ignition coils is misfiring a little (replaced twice -
the same problem)
- intake manifold maybe cracked
- torque converter does not lock up properly at times (50 mph) but that has been like that for years

Otherwise, car is working great, no loss of power, drive on highways all the time, etc.

What is most likely diagnosys here?
