If carbuerated...check the accelerator pump on the carb when the engine and ignition are off. (Look down the carb and manually move the accelerator and see if fuel is squirted into the venturi. It should be a nice even, strong squirt.
If that's ok, make sure auto choke is working OK. Might need to spray WD40 on carb linkages.
The other thing I'd check is the spark advance unit on the distributor, make sure it is not seized up when vacuum is applied to it. Make sure the counterweights in the distributor can actually move freely. (I've seen them seized up before).
Tune it up. Set choke properly. Choke could be sticky.

GM has a fair amount of trouble with the mass air flow sensor in-line with the throttle body. Is your check engine light on or comes on. If so go to a shop who performs these types of repairs. either way have it scanned for t-codes. Also be sure there are no cracks in the air in-let tube running from the cowl to the sensor. I've always said, test twice, repair / replace once. Good luck.

Replace the fuel strainer in the fuel tank.It is a screen like thing that is attached to the electric fuel pump.
