Wow, first let me answer your questions. I don't know if they sabotaged your car or not. Next yes it can happen but so can A LOT of other things. Next the water pump won't be that expensive, maybe between 50-75$ but the installation will be a lot more maybe about 200. There are many things that can make your car overheat starting with the radiator, if it is plugged. Next the water pump if it is shot. Next is the thermostat if it is bad or stuck, next is the heater core (mini radiator for the heater) if it is bad or plugged. Then there are all those hoses which can and do collapse. If I were in your shoes I would find a garage with a mechanic who would be willing to help you find the real problem and fix it then not charge you for the trouble shooting. I would never take a car to Midas for this kind of work because I know a guy who used to work there and he DID sabotage cars with his bosses permission and encouragement, good luck>

With the age of the car, the water pump could be bad, look to see where the coolant is coming from. Is it a hose, water pump, or the radiator. There is also a heater bypass hose on the waster pump, I think. The first thing would be to change the thermostat with a new one. It's not hard to do and that may solve your problem. Do find the coolant leak and get it fixed. It could be something simple or something like a head gasket or intake manifold gasket. Besides you never know when you'll need to be somewhere and won't have the time to put more fluid in and you could overheat the engine.

Most likely the water leaked from the water pump and traveled down the hose where it dripped, which made it look like the hose had a pin hole in it. On a car that age the hoses were probably worn and impregnated anyway which meant they needed to be changed soon regardless.
Now that the hoses are new, they traced the water up to the pump. Replacing that at a place like Midas would probably be in the neighborhood of $100-$250.
It's also possible that the added compression from having hoses that were holding water correctly did your water pump in.

They probably missed the water pump leak if it was leaking onto the hose and it ran down the hose. The thermostat can make it over heat also sometimes its hit and miss on what is causing the problem.
The cost will be about 150.00 for parts and labor

If water pump is leaking, losing coolant will eventually cause overheating. Leaking pump must be replaced, probably $200-300 job. If hoses were original, they definitely needed replacement. Plugged radiator, possibly caused by continually adding hard water, will also result in overheating.

You might wanna check your thermostat to see if it working properly before assuming that it's your water pump. A thermostat stuck in the closed position could cause your car to overheat. Midas should have checked that as they were changing your hoses. (Midas sucks.)

yeah, it may be your water pump, or you may have blown a head gasket or have a cracked head. Of course, they would have seen that, or maybe not. You might want a second opinion....

most likely a radiator problem...such as a leak . Take it in and have them run a diagnostic test.
