I recently went to look at a car that has some transmission troubles. I'm pretty sure the Transmission had a flush recently because of the color of the fluid. It just dawned on me but it is very possible the place that did the flush put the wrong type of fluid in it because I was told when I went to get a flush that they only use one type of fluid. Dexron III. In a car that uses ATF +3, big no no.

I know that the plugs and wires need to be replaced, like ASAP (car wont start if it's been sittin too long, like all day). But I don't know how to tell which ones to buy. If I go into a store like Canadian Tire will they know which ones I need just by telling them the year and make of my car? (1996 Pontiac Sunfire)

Car Engine just started ticking! Help!?
I just went to the store and when I started up my car I heard this ticking sound. It gets worse the more I accellerate. What could this be. It just started... I'm scared to drive it because I don't want to blow up the motor. A friend of mine said that it could be really low on oil, but I had it changed 3,000 miles ago and I use synthetic. It's a pretty loud ticking especially when I'm in the garage or next to another car or building. It's a 2001 Pontiac Firebird with 86,000 miles.

Im at work and killing time.

Gotta put new plugs in my daughters Mustang.
So I thought Id ask if anyone knew the size of the socket I'll need to put plugs in my daughters 1992 Mustang GT.
Ive got the standard sockets I need, but I want to pick up the swivel socket as well, since the passenger side plugs look a little tight on space.

Thanks

I have a 4WD 95 Ford Explorer that makes a sqeaky springy sound over even the smallest bumps. It squeaks when I move the steering wheel stopped or in motion and I believe that the ball joints are bad. I would like to know if I need to replace both the upper and lower or just the lower. My truck is very rusted underneath it appears to have been a beach truck. Also if anyone could tell me about how much this would cost or any other possible solutions I would appreciate it very much.

I just got bought a used car from a little old lady. Its a 96, 88,000 miles. I'm not really a car guy and this is the first car I'll be solely responsible for. I'm wondering what I can do to keep the car in good shape. So far I've gotten an oil change, new oil filter, and a new air filter. Think maintenance not performance; anything like spoilers, performance exhaust parts, or anything of that nature will be kindly ignored.

It seems that since I have had the autostart installed in my 1997 jeep grand cherokee the battery becomes weak or dead if I do not drive the vehicle for a couple weeks. I installed a new battery with the same results. It seems to be more prominent in cold weather.

I have just found a nail in my car tyre, it could have been there for months for all I know.

Do I need to get a new tyre or could I get it repaired?

When i stop the car slowly for the red light, the engine suddenly stop running and the car dies. i can always restart it, but it could take a couple of tries. This happened three times in the past two months, and the occurrence is completely unpredictable. Otherwise, the car runs fine. There is no warning sign for the engine problem. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Thanks!

I had a nasty squeal coming from my brakes whenever I slowly braked. So I took my car to the shop about 3 weeks ago and the mechanic said the rotors needed to be cut because I had cheap pads on (bought my car used). So he cut the rotor and put new pads on.

Couple days later I started hearing a squealing again. Not as bad as before but its was back again. Any idea why? Well, its been 3-4 weeks since I had the job done and I hear squealing. Seems worse when I just start driving and improves with a little time. Maybe its cause they are new and need to adjust? (I dont really drive my car too much, could be why its been 3 weeks) thx for any help.

I usually get my oil changed at a Mobil 1, but I'm out of town until the end of the month and my car's computer says it's time for an oil change. I'm not familiar with this city but I've seen a Wal Mart and a Jiffy Lube near my hotel. I know Wal Mart is kind of ghetto but is it a decent place to get an oil change?

My a/c quit blowing cold the end of last summer and I had some of that blacklight dye stuff put in the compressor to see if it was leaking and it was. Do I just need a new compressor or are there other parts I need to get?

My husband is at work and I'm trying to price parts and buy them so he has no excuse to postpone this any longer than he already has :)

A rod bearing in my engine broke, and destroyed it. The mechanic that I went to searched and searched for a new engine (2000 Chevy S10) and the cheapest he could find was $1450 (used). For anyone who's had experience with this, is this a good price?

My transmission fluid is kind of dirty and transmission is a little rough shifting from gear to gear... The transmission shop refuses to do a flush and change fluid saying that new fluid is going to turn all those tiny metal particles loose and it will result in a lock-up. They insist on dismantling the whole thing and charging me $400 for it. Do you think what they're saying makes sense or its a rip-off?

Also, what is the difference between changing the fluid and flushing and changing?
