It seems that since I have had the autostart installed in my 1997 jeep grand cherokee the battery becomes weak or dead if I do not drive the vehicle for a couple weeks. I installed a new battery with the same results. It seems to be more prominent in cold weather.

Your auto start has a receiver and or a transmitter. So, you have a radio that's always left on. There is a squelch circuit built in to help with the drain bur it is still drawing a small amount of current, more so than if it was not installed. Since you don't drive it that often, you may want to put a trickle charge on it to keep the battery at full charge. Another option is to let it auto start once a week and let the SUV run for 10 mins. This would recharge the battery.
I have the same problem with my F150 now that I'm retired.

Parasitic? Where do people get these terms? It draws power because it has a radio receiver going.
That thing draws about 1/5 of an amp. which is enough to kill a good battery in two weeks or so.
You're not going to charge the battery in ten minutes, and you will sludge up the engine and rot out the exhaust system by letting it run for short periods all the time.

Yeah sounds like a parasitic draw, to check for what is causing it, pull off the negative battery cable and attach an AMP meter or a test light in series between the battery and the cable, if the light comes on or the meter shows more than .25mA you have a draw, also make sure all the doors are shut the hood light should be unplugged, key off. If one of the above are on then start pulling fuses to your remote start, radio....etc. Until the light goes off or the mA decrease.
