I'm looking to buy a 91 Jeep Cherokee (no special "grand" or anything like that).

Every rig has its own special "issues" they tend to develop.

What are the known "issues" with Jeep Cherokees?

The problem started out with not having tail lights and interior dash lights. The head lights were still working. The brake lights still work. I was told by an experienced mechanic of many years that the problem could be the head light switch. Any ideas anyone? I would appreciate them!

(Sidebar: I drive a 1996 Camaro, 3.8 v6)
To make a long story short, I was involved in a 55mph side impact back in October of 2006, on the passenger side. I had to deal with some shady bodyshop chosen by my parents (and because the insurance company claimed they were very dependable). As soon as I got my car back, I kept noticing this loud rattling sound from under the passenger seat, under the car. I figured it was the catilic converter and had the owner of the body shop look at it. Another long story short, insurance company refused to fix it because "there's no way to tell that it was accident-related". Funny how it never started
until AFTER the wreck though, huh? Anyway, today I got in my car (it's a 5-speed) and as I back up I heard a loud "knock" from under my car. I started driving and the knocking became so loud and was hitting from under the car SO HARD, that it made my stick shift move and I could even feel the vibrations under me. What could this be? Help!

If i leave the gas tank until it is almost on "E" before I fill up, is that bad? Would it cause harm to the engine? I keep hearing rumors that if the gas is too low it would clog the fuel injectors. how true is this?

I have tried to fix this squeaking noise several times.. just took my car in (its a 99 eclipse) and the mechanic said that even though my belts were good they were getting dirty because there was no shield on the bottom of my car and so salt and dirt and such were getting on my belts... he said i would have to order a splash shield, BUT then he cleaned my belts with this spray and they still made the noise again... he said once the shield is on and they really clean the belts it will stop.. do you think this is right? the last time i took it in the mechanic told me it wasnt the belts but i forget what he said but he was young and said it was something he also has on his car and he doesnt fix it because its expensive and not really damaging the car.... also, the squeaking starts again sometimes while i drive and sometimes i can control it by letting off the gas or turning off the heat and the noise is really bad when its raining out. sorry i know this is confusing butanyadvicewould help

I have a 1992 Jeep Cherokee. Recently it started vibrating whenever I accelerate. The vibrations are bad when I start accelerating and continue to varying degrees at different speeds. Sometimes the vibrations will go away almost completely and stay away as long as I maintain that speed. But once I change speeds the vibrations return.

It feels like the body of the Jeep is vibrating, not necessarily the engine. There are no vibrations when I'm idling. The whole Jeep vibrates, but it is worse in the rear. I suspect that it may be my tires, as their treads are right at 2/32", but I want to be sure before I drop $500 on tires. Any thoughts on what this problem could be? Thanks for the ideas.

My son just bought an 84 F150 pick up. It had been hotwired and stolen, so the steering column had been compromised. The truck can be started, but will not shut off with the key. He replaced the ignition swith, but the problem still exists. Not sure if it is in the key switch somewhere, or in the wiring down the column. Anyone have any ideas? Suggestions? Thanks

Occasionally, after starting my vehicle in the morning, there is no engagement when I shift from Park to Drive or Park to Reverse. My van just sits there. After a few minutes, it will finally lurch into drive and everything runs smoothly after that. I'm guessing this is a transmission problem, but does anyone have an idea just what kind? Am I looking at a minor repair or a total overhaul? I'm not hearing any strange noises and my fluid levels are good.

hey all , i have a mercedes 350sdl. it has lot of miles on it (over 175k) but it still runs well. Today I noticed something odd. When I would accelerate above 40/45mph, i would hear a hissing sound, sort of like air hissing out of a leak. Also the acceleration wasnt working correctly, I could barely get above 50mph - the rpm was spinning up but the car wasnt accelerating like it should.

I took it to the mechanic who knows the car well, and he found I had very low tranmission fluid. We filled that up and I did some test driving in the city around his shop, and it ran normally - I was very pleased. He told me if it went back to the same probably there might be a fluid leak.

But when I got onto the highway to go home, my acceleration felt not as strong as it should when going for exapmle 50-70mph. It was fine going from stop to go, however.

Any ideas? and I still don't know what that hissing sound from earlier was.. but I haven't heard it since,

Thanks.

dealer sold me Avalanche with 17s on ground and 15" spare. I called on this and they said that a 17" wheel wouldn't fit under the truck, where the spare is located. This just doesn't seem right.
