Sounds like a belt. You can do a visual inspection checking for rips, or cracks. You can check the tension. Does one feel looser then the others? Or if your do for the belts to be changed you might just have it done. There is also a belt spray you can buy at the auto parts store. Use it, if the sound goes away then just replace the belt(s). Since you have two belts might as well replace both.
**Maulvade...have you ever seen a transmission belt? Do you even have a car?**
**Bumbles what year did they stop using belt driven fans on Mazda cars? I think it must have been sometime after 2001 according to your answer.**

Sounds like your serpentine belt is slipping on the drive pulley of the alternator.

When you start an engine, it draws a good bit of power from the battery and the alternator needs to replace the power to the battery after the engine starts up.

On a cold morning, the starter needs more power to turn the engine over. Therefor the alternator needs to replace even more power.

one other factor to consider is the belt may be dirty/oily, or is stretched out due to it's age.

Replacing the belt WILL alleviate the problem.

Belts run around $40 give or take, and they're fairly easy to replace.

the other person's right. It's a drive belt squeel. Drive belts should be replaced between 50000 and 80000 miles if they're tightened properly and the car hasn't been involved in a major accident. should cost less than $100 including labor if done at an independent shop, if you're replacing 2 belts.

It sounds like a belt squealing from your description. Get it checked to see if it is tight enough or needs to be replaced.

MOST LIKELY CAUSE IS THE BELT NOT BELTS MOST CARS NOW USE A SERPENTINE BELT BUT IF THAT WAS THE CAUSE YOU WOULD HEAR IT WHEN THE CAR IDLES ARE WHEN YOU ACCELERATING IT WOULD BECOME LOUDER IT COULD BE THE ALTERNATOR OR ONE OF THE PULLEYS(THE TENSIONER PULLEY COMES TO MIND)

Sounds like your fan belt when you first start.... your belt might be old and glazed.....get a new belt and make sure you tighten it up good.

Your fan belts or tansmission belts are loose or too tight that's why they squeal when you first start your vechicle.
