Yeah you really need to leave those numbers on there. There is no reason to remove them ,....unless of course they are stolen and you do not want to get caught with them

If you do not have DOT # on a street car tire in New York State your car does not pass inspection.

Why are you wishing to do this??? Most people will not even know what they're looking at or for etc.
I do because we that attended AAI Spent about 3 days on studing tires alone...
