What's the little black 'valve' thing that's connected to the washer pipe near the washer bottle for? Water sprays out of a small hole every time I wash the windscreen! I assume it's faulty. Is it really necessary or can I just remove it and connect the pipe straight to the motor? Can I buy a new one? What's it called?

why oh why do people answer questions they don't even know a part of the answer?
the 'little black bit' is a none return valve for your washers, they are notorious for leaking and all you can do is replace them, it is there to stop washer fluid going all the way back to the bottle when not in use, therefore when you want to wash the window fluid is ready to go!
without it you would have to hold the control for upto 30 secs to get the fluid onto the window.
you can do without it, but why not buy another(only about 50p), there is an arrow on one side of it, make sure the arrow point away from the pump otherwise you'll get no flow at all!
hope this helps!

Water interior the oil may additionally take place as a type of froth on the oil fill cap. Are you seeing any steam coming from everywhere on a similar time as you're utilising? that should describe why there are no puddles Are there any puddles forming interior the passenger compartment? (if that's the case, it is your heater center...soreness interior the *** to replace) Wait....once you're saying water, do you propose merely trouble-free water, or do you propose water blended with coolant? in view which you're no longer meant to easily use water for that. this is a final-ditch emergency degree, no longer something you ought to do immediately. by way of fact water boils at a decrease temperature than a water coolant/antifreeze (comparable factor) blend, it is not as smart at cooling the engine. So sure, that must be a difficulty.

If water is getting in the boot it is either caused by the boot seal having perished (quite cheap and easy to replace or the rubber grommets in the floor have become dislodged (even cheaper and easier to replace. Most parts for minis a very cheap so windscreen washer non-return valve will only cost about £2.00

I think the little black valve is used to bleed the air out of the washer water. Try to see if it is possible to screw it down as it may just be that it has been left unscrewed on the last service.

I agree with fatbadge, it's just a non-return valve, nothing complicated. You'll probably find it in Halfords, just a generic sort of thing.

You obviously know very little about the workings of your car I would suggest you take it to the garage to let them fix the problem for you.
